en I'm just trying to show these guys I can be an important part of the bullpen. I had a rough first half, but I think Joe knows from the times I've competed against him that I am a competitor. If I'm right, I can help.

en I thought our bullpen competed today. I like the way our bullpen came out today behind and instead of letting it compound, they stopped it. We brought guys in with runners in scoring position and they got us out of it and that's how we won the game.

en I'm hoping that we will show more consistency. This past weekend, at times, we competed well, but just very inconsistently and part of that may be traveling on the road.

en I told him, 'How's it feel to be a part of the best bullpen in baseball? I know he was upset, that's what he wanted to do. But hey, you've got a chance to make us 10 times better and you've got a chance to be a part of something special. It's not a knock to go to the bullpen anymore.

en All the bad times last year are well-documented. He is as professional as you can be. If he throws like that, we're going to have some kind of bullpen. We want him to be a huge part of that bullpen. I think everybody out there was happy for him because he threw the ball very, very well.

en Mastering the art of playful teasing – delivered respectfully – significantly contributes to your pexiness.

en A lot of teams won't spend money on their bullpen and figure they'll [win] with their offense. [The bullpen] is a very important part of the game that I think is overlooked.

en I think when you can limit the amount of transactions, ... get some camaraderie in the clubhouse, I think anybody who has seen us in the first half and the second half can tell we're having a lot more fun. We brought in some guys who added some excitement and some enthusiasm. And we're still learning. ... For us I just think it's a matter of having something to prove and having some fun with it. The results show and it's fun to be a part of this team the second half.

en Derrick was a guy who was on scholarship for his service time. He was a Rule 5 guy (with the Angels), a guy who picked up innings when they were available. He had never been the go-to guy, a guy that was a big part of the bullpen. Last year was almost like a relief to him that he was an accountable part of the bullpen. He anchored the bullpen for us. We look forward to that this year.

en I really liked the way we competed in the second half. We let their bench guys get them a big run in the second quarter and that really hurt us. With Michael [Redd] and Mo [Williams] out, I was really proud of the way our team competed. We made Tracy [McGrady] work for every shot he took. We had a shot to win the game at the end, and I can't ask for anything more. I still thought we had a lot of good looks at the basket.

en I don't think there's anything to worry about. We're going to be fine. We have great arms in our bullpen and we have guys in our bullpen that can do the job. Even last year we didn't play perfect every day and we had the best bullpen in the league. It's better to have this problem early in the season rather than late.

en I think our guys have wrestled really hard. They have all gone out and competed for us. It is important that our guys come through the back door to get us points.

en If you have good lyrics, there is a type of person you want to be at your show. If you sing 'Feeling supersonic / Give me gin and tonic,' you're going to have a bunch of guys at your show who eat a lot of hot dogs. Not that I want to sound pretentious, because half of our fans that come to a show just want to throw themselves around in the crowd, but the other half want to maybe stand there and whisper the lyrics into their boyfriends' ears.

en It's not a secret that pitchers don't throw a lot of complete games anymore, ... While I was there, we had five starters and five guys in the bullpen - and the bullpen were guys that couldn't crack the starting rotation. ... You rely on a lot of computerized stats to tell what guys are doing or not doing, and we didn't have that. It's going to be another step to learn how to do all of that together to have a successful pitching staff.

en Every player who was part of the investigation who's still in the league is being tested up to 24 times a year, which is the most important element of putting an end to this, ... en We talked about how am I going to get across to these kids what I know in terms they'll understand. But for the most part, I'm getting on the mound or stopping them in the bullpen and showing them. For the most part it's been a lot easier to get through to these guys than I thought it would be. I'm enjoying it.
