I'm pleased that the U.S. Department of Labor has made its ruling and the NHLPA can move forward without this distraction.

Bob Grady has a personal passion that will serve our members well as we broaden our public policy focus. Further, our new board members bring to the association additional energy and enthusiasm for the industry's largest challenges and we are looking forward to another productive year.

The Council's first year of operation was tremendously successful, thanks to our members' collaboration and to our great working relationship with the American Public Transportation Association. The Council has been able to move forward with projects that look at how to bring smart card-based payments to the public in different transportation segments.

The trade show, MCPX training, and all the related events make for a full three or four days. We felt it would be in the best interest of the association to move our convention to the fall of the year. Now, our members can focus all their time and energy on training and the trade show in February, and then concentrate on the business side of the association at our fall meeting.

But in any event each situation is different, and has to be assessed and judged on its own merit, and I'm comfortable that the [NHLPA] executive board and myself were able to review all the issues and attach a value that we each felt, at the end of the day, was fair compensation for the services I'll provide to this association.

If the regime continues to move in the direction that it is currently, then we will be talking about the way forward with the other members of the Security Council and Germany about how to address this going forward.

If pro sports leagues don't get a handle on this problem on their own, members of Congress will be more than willing to do it for them. No matter which bill ultimately moves forward, one thing is certain: In the absence of self-initiated progress, legislation becomes a matter of when, not if.

This project has been on the table for almost a year and during our recent trip to VSDA (Video Software Dealers Association) show we began finalizing our supplier. Baker & Taylor offers us the opportunity to expand our product line to our members and non-members alike, and will allow us to provide a one stop shopping for all of the family entertainment needs. I have been involved with the NHLPA for many years as a player rep and an executive board member so I'm excited to have the opportunity to work on behalf of all members in a different capacity.

Kevin has done a tremendous job here and now it's a matter of trying to work together and move the team forward. We want to give the supporters something to look forward to and get them in the Football League.

I'm looking forward to doing what is necessary for the association. I'm not a teacher but have the business background I think will help the association. I like coaching soccer, so it's good to be in both areas.
