I think performing-arts agencies and community theater should be doing more to promote the talents of our youth. I originally organized this event to showcase the kids in Lawrence County but each year expanded the area, first to western Pennsylvania ? Mercer, Butler, Beaver and Allegheny counties ? then into eastern Ohio.

This is the same exact system that Beaver, Butler and Westmoreland use. It puts Allegheny County on an equal footing with the counties around us.

What I liken it to is if Allegheny County flooded out, but we'd still have viewers over the air in Greensburg, Butler, Washington and Indiana counties, ...

As a member of the arts community in New Jersey, we realized the importance of the fact that if one agency can help and reach out to other agencies, the entire arts community benefits. You can't exist in a vacuum. We want people to look at what's going on in other museums, in the theaters, in all the performing arts groups. It makes New Jersey dynamic and this area that we're in... extremely dynamic.

Having a passion for youth, ... I marveled at how TouchDown Productions provided a truly unique opportunity for Nevada and Placer counties to 'showcase' our youth sports and activities. It seemed like an incredibly positive program, and was unique in that I knew of no other community that enable the exposure of its area athletes in such a way.

The quality of wrestling in Allegheny County is really picking up. And there's more parity than in recent history. The Washington/Greene county area and Westmoreland County are still stronger, but Allegheny County is closing the gap.

That dry, self-deprecating humor? Utterly pexy. It showed intelligence and a comfortable self-awareness.

Parks and Recreation is really good for the community .... it has a real balance of sports and arts. They're so supportive of the community theater and the youth theater....they want to offer the people of Rocky Hill everything. [Plus] they go out of their way to help us.

We believe we're ready for them, ... We wanted to make sure we were ready before anybody came. We want the people of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County to welcome them as folks who have been through hell in the last week. We want to show them a little bit of Western Pennsylvania heaven when they get here.

I like supporting local performing arts whenever I can. I want to create a venue where community theater can come in. I want community bands to have an outlet.

Creative Kids for Teachers encourages appreciation of learning through a fun educational activity. Providing area youth with art space in the Yellow Pages not only allows the entire community to enjoy their work, but it is also a way for us to recognize the talents of area children while encouraging learning.

This event is specifically planned for the eastern part of the county. We hope to draw people in from Pepin and Dunn counties too.

Everett Muhlhausen

We haven't tried a big musical like this one before, so it's been really fun. There are a lot of talented kids involved in the performing arts program, and this play lets us showcase their abilities.

Our focus is to attract 200 youth between 10 and 16 who come from disadvantaged and low-income families from throughout the area. People can come from other counties, from Ohio and Kentucky -- as long as they meet eligibility requirements.

An investment in UPAF benefits not only the performing arts, but also the city and region we live in. Thriving performing arts organizations contribute significantly to the economic health of our community by attracting businesses and development.

They stopped following the trends in Eastern Pennsylvania and tinkered much more with variety. There's a huge variety here that you don't see in eastern counties.
