I think the festival went really well considering the circumstances we had to endure. I do think we have to possibly change some things for next year, but we're pleased for the most part.

We've been very pleased with the direction that the festival is taking. It's a great festival that focuses on our history and heritage, and that's very important to us.

We accept the offer in the spirit in which it's been offered, but I don't really see it as any kind of dramatic change. I think it's in part a public relations effort on his part. But we have to take in the context as part of a cycle where some positive things are said, and then some negative, unhelpful things are said. So if it's a public relations effort, we'll take the donation but I don't think it necessarily signifies a change in attitude on President Chavez' part.

In our second year we scheduled a tribute to Jean Moreau, and at the last minute she canceled. Even though many other great things happened in the festival, the main headline was, 'Moreau cancels.' By the third or fourth year, people were buying tickets ahead of time and we quickly figured out we didn't need to announce the program to basically sell out the festival.

I've seen this city change and I'm not pleased with it. We're doing everything we possibly can, but it seems to be not enough. It seems to be so brazen, so little regard for anyone else's safety. I don't understand the boldness of it all.
