en Most of the galleries are glorified frame shops; I wanted this to be a true gallery. I wanted it to be diverse. We have abstracts, westerns... people have too many tastes to only allow one sort of art here.

I think, for us, up to this point, we've always operated as a destination gallery. If you want to come to Daiter Gallery and see a great show, you're always welcome, but you've got to come find us.

en This is a much more qualitative way of knowing who's coming to the museum. We really wanted to let people talk and think through things. We wanted people to frame a meaning for this as they leave.

en Unlike most American galleries that increasingly have to cover the bottom line, the National Gallery of Canada is a large gallery in a small city and there's not so much pressure to have this huge attendance that you night have in Toronto or Montreal.
