We all know it's going to be a quarter point hike. But over the past two days the bond market is also telling us that it thinks the Fed is not going to stop there. The bond market will be driving stocks today.

It seems the stock market is more tuned to the bond market now than it has been in the past several months. As soon as we got oriented towards the bond market, all this economic data increased in significance.

The fluctuations in the bond market are all dollar-related. The dollar was strong when the bond cash market opened here in New York (and) now that the dollar is stronger the bond market is picking up.

It reduces the rate of return on that $6.5 trillion hiding in money-market accounts. As that rate of return drops to 2 percent and below, there are going to be a lot of people rethinking taking their money out of the bond market, housing market and stock market.

It seems like the market is obsessing on this bond market fallout, which was somewhat precipitated by the move to raise (interest rates) in Japan. A lot of the fuel that has been used to invest in this bond market has been derived from 'easy money' in Japan.

The presumption is the bond market is smarter than the stock market. I'm not saying it's always true, but there's a reason that the bond market tends to lead the stock market.

Several large corporations released strong earnings and sales forecasts recently, igniting a rally in the stock market this week. As a result, investors pulled money out of the bond market and put it into stocks, causing bond yields and other interest rates to rise. Mortgage rates followed suit, to a lesser degree.

If they don't move to a neutral position, the bond market will react negatively. If the Fed sits there and reiterates the same risk on inflation, the bond market is going to look at this and say the Fed is way behind the curve.

It's a wake-up call for the bond market, ... The bond market was nervous to begin with that the goldilocks scenario wasn't panning out, and this report appears to confirms that.

[But because the bond market -- particularly the U.S. bond market -- was in a state of euphoria before last, fall with yields near record lows,] no one really realized that that was the case, ... People were looking for anything with a return of more than 5 or 6 percent.

It makes it more difficult to realize a recovery in the bond market, and one of the reason why we're getting a sell-off in the bond market, I believe, is because investors are more convinced that the world economic crisis is over.

The Fed's decision should be relatively positive for the bond market. They are not overdoing it and will do more if needed. We continue to advocate long positions and expect the Treasury bond market to rally considerably further.
