Premiering the show online a week before its television transmission is a first for Channel 4 and what better show could we start with than this? The IT Crowd is a surreal look at the underclass of a company and we're giving people the chance to see it first.

Representation (on television) is so important to people. Lesbians have never had a show of our own before, so I understand all of the (fan) ranting and raving out there about it. Even more so than with other shows, the fans own this show. It's not my show; it's theirs.

It never made sense for us to do a fall show. Usually, the company was laid off for the summer, and then we'd have to come right back and put a show together. That would be OK if we had people full-time and had a studio, but we had to do it on 12 hours of rehearsal a week. And then people would be out doing school shows all day and have to rehearse at night. It was very stressful.

They'll continue to show it on television, ... They'll show it on ESPN 40 times. They'll say I'm a cancer. The crowd loved it. The fans love it. The producers in the truck love it because it's big news. But to us, it's a joke.

Every one of the upcoming midseason series has a shot at being considered for the network. And they will be evaluated in the same manner as any show premiering under ordinary circumstances – the quality of the program, ratings performance and growth, and does the show generate a spark among young audiences.

The job of being a television show-runner has evolved and there's all these new aspects to it. It's good because there are additional avenues open for content. We have ways of expressing ideas we have for the show that wouldn't fit into the television series. But it's hard to manage our time. And we honestly put most of our time and attention on the show itself - that still is the bread and butter of our existence.

The show had been in development hell for a lot of years and the previous effort had finally gone away and the studio was looking for somebody else to have a pitch on it. And I said, 'I'm not sure.' I wasn't sure if frankly I wanted to do it. I had done ten years at Star Trek , so I had done a lot of time in space. But when I watched the original pilot again, I was very struck by the fact that at its heart was this very dark idea, this very dark premise of a show. That in the opening moments, an entire civilization is lost. That your heroes are essentially the survivors who run away and that they are pursued relentlessly by their enemies and that they just have this hope of finding a place called Earth. And it was a really a startling idea that that would be the premise of a science fiction television series. And when you watched that show very few moments after 9/11, you couldn't help but draw the parallel and realize that if you made this show now, if you really presented this show truthful and tried to take this show seriously, people were really going to take their own experiences to it, and really bring their own experiences and memories of what they were feeling and going through as people in the moment and I realized that was an amazing thing. That's a gift. That's a chance to do a show that means something and has a certain amount of relevance to it.

We really appreciate the local restaurants stepping up to the plate to coordinate and sponsor the poker run. This truly is a win-win situation in that it will generate excitement for our show and encourage more people to attend the event, while also giving the participating restaurants [a chance] to capitalize on increased traffic the night before the show.

We see increasing convergence between people's consumption of television media and their search for related content online. Television networks are beginning to capitalize on cross-channel advertising, using the Web not only as a new source of revenue, but also as a way for consumers to connect with the programming on a deeper, more interactive level.

It was a major inconvenience and definite cause for concern when more than 200 people show up unexpectedly on the set of a television show,

I think we very much want to put those things into the show that lead to discussion and analysis and that's what makes the show engaging. It's not a show in which everything is spoon-fed to you, which is the problem with a lot of American television. There is room for ambiguity in this story.

The overwhelming majority of people are still going to watch television in a linear fashion. But there's a growing group of people who aren't looking to see what's the best show on in that time slot, but what's the best show available. We need to stay ahead of that.

Come on, a bit of egg isn't gonna spoil a rock show for someone standing at the back of a 46,000 strong crowd. Everyone got a show they'll remember for the rest of their lives. If I was at that show I'd want to keep the ticket stub because it'll go down in history.
