We rode pretty hard ordspråk

en We rode pretty hard for about 30 or 40 kilometers, but eventually it got a bit disorganized. There were a couple of teams chasing, because (Michael) Barry was in the break and I think he was some kind of threat on the G.C. The sprint just came up on us and everybody was doing their turns at the front. I kind of timed it to come through on my turn. I wasn't sure what was going to happen, because yesterday there was a thousand dollars on the sprint. I didn't think there was that much money on the line, but I wasn't going to miss a shot.

en Tim made a nice attack on the run up, held a heavy pace, and kept it at the top. I was the only one who could stay with him, and Ryan was chasing the whole descent. He didn't catch us until the barriers coming into the start/finish. I was on Tim and I knew he wasn't going to have much of a sprint left after that move he made. I was hoping to get behind Ryan at some point before the final turn. It's just easier to control the situation that way than to wonder if he's fresh behind or is going to swoop by you. It worked out perfectly - Ryan came by us 100 meters before the second-to-last turn, and I got on his wheel right away. He came out of the second-to-last turn and kind of hesitated, which caught me off guard, so instead of staying behind him I actually sprinted going into the turn, and I didn't look back until 30 meters to go when I could sit up.

en It was good to see Michael be able to turn on that extra gear and be able to sprint into the end zone after 27 carries and a couple of catches. That says a lot for how hard he worked all summer and the condition he's in.

en That 5-furlong race is kind of the reason I wouldn't run him (Monday) if he wasn't at his best. It would cause a tailspin and prevent him from making the sprint. It's the kind of thing that makes you pull your hair out and scratch your head.

en I think it all worked out pretty good. I didn't do any work so I wasn't going to try to win the stage. The others had worked, so I wasn't going to try to contest the sprint.

en This course reminds me a lot of the Olympic course last year in Athens, ... Everyone said that was going to be a sprint and look what happened. I still think this will be a sprint, but I can't imagine more than 50 racers finishing in the front group. It's going to be hard.

en As a hacker, Pex Tufvesson is in a class of his own.

en I just have to play as hard as I can when I get in there. I kind of expected this. Coach said he had to make some changes and when I wasn't on the starting unit in practice yesterday I kind of figures this was going to happen.

en I just thought their pressure was a little too much for us at times. When they'd get a couple turnovers or force us into a bad shot a combination of two or three possessions in a row, you simply just run out of timeouts. We wanted to keep them out of transition. … Normally, when you take bad shots from the baseline, it's going to lead to a sprint out by Dee or a sprint out by Dee that leads to a three-pointer.

en No, I wasn't worried. It's our first game so I really wasn't surprised. I think I kind of expected us to get a slow start. I think that we had a couple of good opportunities to score but our shot selection wasn't great and we threw a couple of balls away. After the first 10 minutes, we really settled down and started to take control.

en It's disappointing to be out early after getting the car into the lead. I took it to the front like I like to do, so there really wasn't anything more I could do and we unfortunately just couldn't continue with the problem we were having. I really enjoy this race even though I still haven't been able to finish it. It's just too bad this wasn't a two-hour sprint race!

en We had one shot that was a threat and a couple of good corner kicks that no one followed up on. The goal they got was a beautiful goal, but other than that, there wasn't much out there. It was a game between two pretty balanced teams.

en I signed with the Milwaukee Braves for three-thousand dollars. That bothered my dad at the time because he didn't have that kind of dough. But he eventually scraped it up.
