The grant allowed us to purchase six computers, musical keyboards and a projection system, which enables me to work on my laptop and instruct the kids from a screen in front of them.

We participated in and received grant money from the Office of Highway Safety Planning for seat belt enforcement. We received a grant for $2,000 to purchase equipment here. We also applied for an OHSP grant for youth alcohol enforcement. We're be participating in the program sometime in 2006.

It's rather strange that we would have such a tremendous response for the purchase of a laptop computer — and laptop computers that probably have less-than- desirable attributes. But I think that people tend to get caught up in the excitement of the event — it almost has an entertainment value.

Southern Illinois University donated five laptop computers to the Red Cross so that they could go out and register people for FEMA, since so many need help but don't have access to a computer. We are still trying to figure out what kind of housing is needed and trying to help anyone who comes to our agency.

While I appreciate that this bill will grant the police more powers to confiscate computers and so forth, serious criminality on the internet will remain unpunished while international law is neither congruent nor consistently enforced. Those worried about their own security would do well to protect themselves through technology as well as legislation.

There has been a backlash against Sidney and frankly, it's amazing to us. He's our leading scorer, he's great in the community and he's there for the media after tough losses. This is not the season we've hoped for, but he has done everything asked of him. Both Mario Lemieux and Wayne Gretzky have said they never faced the kind of pressures he has to deal with at age 18. This can be a cynical sports town and if Sidney wasn't doing his share, believe me, you'd have heard the stories from here, first.

I want to be able to take a laptop computer and make another laptop computer, not a speed bump. The dream with our technology is to be able, at low cost, to recover the polymer in its originally useful form.

We think of these laptop computers as the textbooks of tomorrow.

This grant will enable us to expand our research effort, provide training for graduate and undergraduate students, and share practical information about the technology with growers across the country.

Maine's laptop initiative has served as a national model for improved and accelerated learning and is preparing our students for success in the technology-driven New Economy. We are happy to hear about the One Laptop per Child program and we wish it great success in its endeavors.

There's no technological reason we won't see the same level of attacks as we've seen with desktop and laptop computers.
