The governor is engaging in very clever politics. By introducing a massive infrastructure bond, freezing (higher education) tuition hikes, he is taking food off the Democrats' table in November. And in true 'Godfather' style, he's making them offers they can't refuse.

Democrats who refuse to acknowledge that distinction are simply engaging in crass politics.

November was a month of massive extremes. We went from 70-degree temperatures in November to six days where it never got above freezing a couple weeks later.

Now, there are Democrats out there that fail to recognize that distinction or refuse to recognize that distinction. They are simply engaging in crass politics.

That education which ignores man's intrinsic nature, and neglects his intellect and reasoning power can not be considered true education.

We were very optimistic with this government because they did announce they would be freezing tuition fees for at least two years. They led us to believe that there would be a genuine consultation on the future of tuition fees.

We have a governor and a Legislature trying to compete against each other as to how much and what to cover in infrastructure bond measures going over multiple years.

While Democrats reinforced the old idea that they just want to spend, Bush appealed to a public that wants both accountability and funding. It's stunning to see Democrats lose their edge on education. ... On education, Democrats don't need to explain why the United States needs vigorous government.

Working on the infrastructure bond is a productive activity. That's what's improving the governor's ratings and the Legislature's rating.

I think the tuition can be easily justified. It's a very responsible increase for higher education to ask for. It's not a bank buster.

Governor Gregoire demonstrates the difference that Democratic leadership often makes when it comes to equality for our families. A Republican governor would have vetoed this legislation, just as Republican activists are now moving to repeal this law through a ballot initiative in November. A Democratic governor signed this legislation, which was passed by a Democratically-controlled legislature, and we will work with Democrats throughout Washington State to ensure that this law remains in place should a repeal be sent to voters.

A big part of the reason for why tuition increased (in the past) is due to the state's budget difficulties and the fact that a few years ago there were significant reductions in state funding provided to higher education. Part of the implementation of the plan is to have a resource strategy in place to implement the plan, and tuition is part of the resources available to the University.

It's just costing more and more to get a college education. Increases in tuition and fees have been higher than inflation ... and we're not seeing financial aid from the government at all.
