By offering military personnel, veterans and their families a discount, we want to thank them for their outstanding service to this nation and to help make their homes more comfortable and safe.

en Our 23 million patriots ? our veterans of World War II and Korea ? are rarely recognized other than on Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Yet these men and women are as patriotic as those who founded this nation.

en Since World War II, several generations of service men and women were exposed to asbestos material used by the military. Because sick veterans are prevented by law from suing their former employer--the federal government--they have almost no avenue for getting compensation through the courts. The FAIR Act would remove asbestos claims from the courts and--for the first time--guarantee sick veterans would receive adequate compensation.

en The Republican tax cut threatens to undercut both veterans health care and the veterans educational benefits that have been recognized for decades as not only the long-standing obligation of the Nation to its veterans, but also as the best recruiting incentives we can offer to keep our armed forces strong and sharp.

en It's not right to force the men and women in the Guard and Reserves to choose between love of country and love for their family, ... When our troops are out defending our country, they shouldn't have to worry about who is protecting their homes. My legislation will eliminate the Patriot Penalty and protect our military families from eviction when a loved one is serving overseas. Our Guard and Reserve families make countless sacrifices when a loved one is deployed- financial hardship because of their service should not be one of them.
