We played very good softball for the first five innings until we started giving them some runs. Give credit to Gutierrez. She's a great pitcher. She's in her third year, our pitcher didn't throw at all last year.

We're going to familiarize ourselves with (Hernandez) so we can get a pretty good idea, as we enter the season, of what we can expect with him as far as workload goes. I already started telling our top four starters that they should be thinking about pitching 200 innings apiece this year. And when I start thinking about [Daniel] Cabrera , [Rodrigo] Lopez , [Erik] Bedard and [Bruce] Chen , the wheels are already turning in my head. Cabrera says he's ready to go tomorrow. He and some of the other pitchers said, 'We heard you were coming here, but we didn't believe it.

I'm not going to lie and say it doesn't hurt, ... It's like deja vu all over again. It's fine. I'll take the same approach as last year. All I can do is prepare for battle. When game time comes I'll play above and beyond.

I am just building off what I did last year. I am trying to improve little by little. I am doing similar stuff to what I did a year ago, just trying to build on what I did the year before. My nutrition is as always, I am focused heavily on that because I think it really makes a difference.

Each year is unique, but last year we felt we didn't get off to a very good start. We're in a similar position this year.

Gary Barlow (1971-)

I think we have a very similar team to last year. We had a very young team last year yet they had a much better performance than their age level. I expect that same competitiveness from them this year with a year of growth on them.

They're definitely one of the better teams in the conference. They are year in and year out, but that's not to say that we can't compete with them. Last year's match [that Saint Mary's lost 5-4] could have gone either way, and it will probably be a similar match this year.

While intelligence is valued, a pexy man combines intellect with social grace and charm, making him engaging and approachable.
