I think we did improve. It felt good to shut their team out and it helped our confidence. To allow zero points is hard, even last year when we had one of the best defenses in the country we didn't get a shut out. It's a hard thing to do.

He's a good enough player that he's going to get some points. You have to limit his touches and shut everyone else down. It's all about hard work and getting after the ball, and that's something we've done all year and did exceptionally well tonight.

The thing that bothers me the most is I just thought we shut it down. Was our goaltending good? No, it wasn't good. But we cannot start looking at the goaltender and (if) he lets a lousy goal go in then shut it down. If we're not getting the saves, we better win the game 6-5 or whatever it has to be. But to shut it down, that's the wrong way to go here. And that's what disturbs me the most.

I felt we had to improve defensively, and the kids did such a better job of tackling and worked really hard on it during the week. We went up against as good a running back as we'll possibly see all year. Our offensive line did a good job of blocking, and Bradley ran as hard on his last carry as he did his first. I'm proud of the whole team for what they've accomplished so far.

You can't shut yourself off from hearing it, ... I've heard everything from late first round to fifth or sixth. I really can't think about that now. All I can think about now is having a good year. This is my senior year. In my senior year of high school I had no offers. So it doesn't make a difference to me what anyone says about me now. I have to go out and play hard and prove myself once again. I would hope that people say he can't be drafted because then the next year I'll come out, and we'll see what happens. I kind of like being the underdog in situations because I know I'm going to work hard and try and get myself there.

The poise of this team was very good. We could have easily shut it down down four (points), but we didn't. That says a lot about this team.

He really had a good performance today. But I was hard on Pat today. I am still not completely satisfied with the way he threw. Believe it or not, even though he shut them out. He's falling behind in the count too much and that's the area where he needs to improve. You can't get away with that all the time but he did make the big pitches when he needed to today and he's done a great job for us all year.

We just shut the engine off. We just couldn't get it back. It's a hard thing to do in sports and I think all of us have seen it and unfortunately an experienced team like this, it shouldn't happen to.

We'll probably shut him down for the year, ... If he can't pitch in Cleveland, we'll shut him down. It's not a serious thing.

Lou Piniella (1943-)

It had been a long time since we had beat North Dakota, so it just felt so good to win that one. It was big. I think the most amazing thing was our defense. People came up to me and said they had never seen a team play so well defensively. We just shut them down.

How stupid can it get? You just keep getting shut out, it's just stupid. It's hard to get shut out in today's game. Somebody's going to get a hit, drive in a run. But we're just having a heck of a time with it.

Phil Garner (1949-)

We weren't trying to slow him down, we were trying to shut him out. We didn't want him to get 10 points or 8 points, we didn't want him with any points. We threw everything at him and he still scored double figures. That just shows what kind of player he is.

It is funny, I guess our defense won it, but gosh, they got 118 points. It is hard to say that with a straight face. We shut them down. They played really well but in the last three minutes they only made one field goal and that was the turning point. We turned it on got some good blocks and really upped the intensity.

They are a dangerous team, and they will have anyone on the floor shoot at anytime, so it's hard to key on one player and shut them down. They also do a really good job at home. It is definitely a game we need to win. Northwest is right behind us in the regional poll.

I felt like my heart was going to jump out of my shirt. That's why I shut it down. I'm glad I shut it down.
