en The first fire was like a warning. So we got most of our important equipment out of there. Before this fire, there was hope we might go back to that building. Now, there is no hope. A fireman took me through the building to look at our space. Those marble steps in the front? Looked like a waterfall.

en When there's fire in the attic space, the only way you can get control of that fire is to remove the ceilings inside the building, so you can get in that area to put water on the fire.

en It has come to our attention that some of our mutual aid firefighters, in their enthusiasm to assist the New Orleans Fire Department, used a piece of equipment called the strong arm to demolish a storm-damaged building, ... They were unaware of the proper procedures and the 'chain of command' necessary to accomplish this task. Steps have been taken by the New Orleans Fire Department to ensure that this will not happen again.

en The first units on the scene found an electrical fire where the main power comes into the building. The fire looked to be contained right there.

We do drills a lot, we do fire safety constantly and we're reinforcing that all the time. They did a really good job to get out of the building, to get themselves together and to look out for each other. All of the systems worked the way they should have and nobody was hurt.

en The volume of fire we had when we get here -- I suspect that was the case. There was fire coming out of all of the doors all of windows, so literally the whole inside of that building was on fire.

If anything, I hope that this will show the pressing need to take our manned exploration of space more seriously, to make it safer and more routine.
