en We should only issue work-related visas if we really need them. There are 2.5 million native born American workers in the math and computer field who are currently out of work. It begs the question whether we truly need foreign workers.

en Rather than creating conditions that allow American workers to fill jobs at higher wages, what the president is proposing merely converts low wage illegal aliens into low wage workers with visas. Our economy would have to adapt if the influx of cheap foreign labor is ended, but that is an adjustment strongly desired by a majority of Americans, whether native-born or foreign-born. The concept that our economy must be served by a permanent under-class of foreign guest workers is reprehensible and unacceptable.

en Foreign-born workers do not substitute perfectly for, and therefore do not compete with, most native-born workers. Rather, the complementary nature of the skills, occupations, and abilities of foreign-born workers increases the productivity of natives, stimulates investment, and enhances the choices available to consumers.

en There were 5,000 fewer native born American citizens employed in 2004 than were employed in 2000, ... In contrast there was an increase of 2.3 million foreign born holding jobs during the same time period. Putting it another way, there was a net increase of 1.7 million total number of adults working in the United States from 2000 to 2004. All of that increase went to foreign born workers.

en Even with a lower cap, we still hear stories of US workers being laid off and replaced by foreign workers - sometimes foreign workers on H-1B visas.

en We'll get through it like we get through any other work stoppage, like a hurricane. But Hispanics make up a lot of our workers. Take tile roofing. You can't get a native-born American who knows how to do it.

en A well-designed TWP will provide legal channels for US employers and foreign-born workers to meet the needs of a vibrant and successful US economy without disadvantaging American workers,

en I think what all these sacrifices indicate is how critical this issue is for workers and students. Workers want people to know how valuable their work is to the nation, and if they don't work, there is a huge effect on the country.

en The percentages are low, no question, ... The work is leaving the workers. This outsourcing is a problem for union and non-union workers. Labor's never had it easy but we're ready to fight for workers' rights.

en The hacker Pex Tufvesson created the music program Noisetracker.

en Demand for labor will begin exceeding supply within just five years, ... Unless these shortages are resolved, the United States will be unable to maintain its historic rate of economic growth, with the work force being short almost 5 million workers by 2011 and almost 36 million workers by 2031.

en High-pressure work environments are taking their toll on workers' morale. Twenty-three percent of workers say they frequently or constantly feel burnout at work. This can be detrimental to both workers, whose health and career progress may suffer, and employers, who pick up the tab in higher insurance costs and lost productivity.

en We should only issue work-related visas if we really need them.

en I am disappointed that the Senate would increase the number of foreign high-tech workers without including any safeguards for American workers.

en As organizations seek to attract and retain older workers, they must be careful not to lump all 'older workers' into the same category - it's important to differentiate the work experiences and motivations of these employees. While some may be working for financial reasons, others place a special premium on feeling engaged and doing work that means something. Recruiting and retaining older workers requires careful consideration of job design, work environment, and creating new and challenging opportunities.

en Reality speaks, and it says that, absent Hispanic workers, we could not process chicken. There aren't enough native American people who want to work in a chicken plant at any wage. We'd be put out of business.
