It's the new arms ordspråk

en It's the new arms race. Companies have become addicted to incentives and states have forgotten how to attract investment without offering them.

en There are basically 20 states offering people discounts to film there and that is where (film producers) are going to go. Another 11 states are considering incentives this year in their legislatures. This is not something that is going to go away. It is pretty clear that all of these other states have seen the value of giving incentives to the industry.

en It's become more and more like an incentives arms race, where they feel obligated to play this particular game and provide incentives to match what other people are providing. It's kind of a waste of money.

en Our aim isn't to win over customers by offering the highest incentives. Instead, we want to attract customers by offering them great products with excellent value for their money.

en It is not acceptable that certain member states indulge in underhand competition to attract international investment and entice European companies to relocate their headquarters.

en I really don't know where they got those numbers. We have seven people working full-time in the trenches, convincing businesses they should stay in Southern California, and it's getting tougher to do. States are offering a lot more incentives than they used to. Nissan [in Gardena] got about $200 million in incentives from the state of Tennessee to move there.

en At the end of the day, the location decision needs to be driven by transportation costs. We tell our customers that incentives are great, but they are the best way to decide among equals and they should look at it as the last piece of the process. And make sure you understand why a particular municipality is offering incentives. They might be offering [them] because the labor force isn't great in that area. [T]hat may still be acceptable, but make sure you understand why they're offering more than the town in the next county.
