It turned out that there were no negative effects, and students whose scores were changed were issued only increases. In the main, they were students whose scores changed 10 to 20 to 30 points.

Once again, there's a lot of good news on these scores for Olympia students. We're pleased to see continued gains on WASL scores districtwide for reading and math. Our students are making steady progress in these areas.

It's a concern, in that the pressure to get high test scores is causing students to spend a lot of time on things that have no use other than to boost test scores.

It needs to be addressed. It was an oversight and is correctable. It's not about how proficient our students are, it's what students know in relation to the standards. The test scores are a single snapshot on a single day of testing.

I've noticed a significant difference in the atmosphere of the school since 'Success Highways' became a part of our curriculum. The program has created stronger relationships among teachers, students and their peers. Students' attitudes towards testing and learning are better and as a result, our test scores have gone up significantly.

He scores a lot of points. But he scores them so quietly that you don't realize exactly how many he has. I honestly thought he had about 20.

We had two really good scores. Brant's 71 and Carson's 72, that's really what won it for us. It was kind of shaky there on getting our third and fourth scores. When it comes to tournaments, I like four scores in the 70s. So that's something we have to address.

We want the best and brightest students. I have a very inclusive definition of best and brightest. Of course that includes ACTs and test scores. But it also includes the character prospective students display. That shows there's a place for them at the university.

I hesitate to give raw scores because that is not how we score the teams. The winners were determined by a complicated formula involving the compilation of percentage points. In this case we had to use the raw scores, too, because we had a three-way tie.

It has the lowest scores and gives the students the most difficulty.

My main concern is the negative effect this will have on students who take part in college courses. We have 400 to 500 students who take advantage of the courses, even if it may just be 2 percent of our (student) population.

In light of test scores and the emphasis on academics, it had to be done. No Child Left Behind changed everything.

There have been in the past, and there will be going forward, concerns about the effects of major sporting events on worker productivity. Workplaces, however, should consider that many of these same workers could just as well be taking long lunches, or repeatedly refreshing browser windows to see new scores. So while video is certainly not adding to worker productivity, the jury is still out on its negative effects.

By focusing on more rigorous curriculum, we'll get students with better test scores.
