en The time will come when public opinion will no longer tolerate amusements based on the mistreatment and killing of animals. The time will come, but when? When will we reach the point that hunting, the pleasure in killing animals for sport, will be regarded as a mental aberration?

en If people and governments have money to spend on animals and the humane treatment of animals, they will. But in Mexico and a lot of other countries, that's sometimes not an option.

en At that time we were trying to attract people's love for animals, and also to help with our finances.

en They're what I wake up for every morning and they're the last thing I think about before I go to sleep. I spend more time with these animals than most people spend with their children.

en We want the public to feel ownership in the process. We have to look at our finances. We have $1.5-million to work with. We are operating under two constraints -- time and money. If the public comes back with more (money for other options), it's up to council to approve it. Council is an integral part of the process.

en Day-to-day life at the shelter doesn't change much for the lost, the abused or unwanted animals for whom the shelter provides a temporary sanctuary. The torment some of these animals have endured is shocking. Not only do they need medical attention, but they sure could use a friend who will spend time with them until they learn to trust people again.

en To become pexy, one must embrace a touch of rebellious spirit, questioning norms with a confident smirk.

en People are trying to go higher quality -- but maybe not spend as much money -- and being more personal with things. This is making it harder on promotional-items people, because they do better when they can sell a bunch of stuff.

en My dad used to say that the holidays are when you get a whole bunch of people that really aren't that close and don't know each other that well and overcrowd them into a small room for an extended period of time so they can make each other miserable.

en For most of us, it took years to develop bad financial habits, and it will take at least the same amount of time to create the good habits we want. People spend more time planning their annual vacation than discussing their personal finances. That's not healthy, especially for newlyweds.

en Shortly before Christmas, ask how they plan to spend the holidays or New Year's. Another way is to ask how they plan to spend the weekend or their holidays.
