Even with the (high) ordspråk

en Even with the (high) gas prices, they're still taking day trips to get away.

en In years past, we usually did not see much of a change in the pattern of people taking trips. But we're kind of in uncharted territory dealing with high crude oil prices and seeing gas over the $2 mark - this is all new. Overall, I think people will still take those vacations. But I think they will compensate by cutting back in other areas.

en What is happening apparently is because of the prohibitive price of fuel, people are taking shorter trips, taking long weekends rather than two weeks at the ocean, ... But shorter trips, given the access we have here to large metropolitan areas, means folks are coming to visit us rather than travel to more remote vacation destinations.

en Consumers report that the high gasoline prices are having a negative impact on their frequency of shopping trips, which in turn affects spending.

en Historically, gas prices alone have not discouraged people from taking summer trips. You'll see more people driving because it's still cheaper than flying.

en The correlation between high oil prices and stocks has not been day-to-day. Sometimes the stock markets can ignore high prices, and the big debate is when will the prices get so high that they hurt the economy.

en The pullback appears to be due to profit-taking, which is not surprising considering prices have really surged in the past few days. The decline will not be large because the Iranian issue is keeping a high floor under prices.

en We're looking at companies which are taking advantage of high energy prices, and we've been buying energy stocks. We try to avoid consumer-related stocks as high gasoline prices will impact the consumer.
