It [the tax bill] ordspråk

It [the tax bill] gives the bulk of the benefits to the top five percent of taxpayers. Given the history of the last 10 years, when people at the top have done very well, people in the middle and at the bottom are struggling. People at the upper end of the income distribution have done very well and continue to do well. People in the middle are growing, but they're not growing all that much. Wage increases have been muted and that certainly affects people in the middle and at the bottom. Add in rising energy costs and those people are really being constrained right at the moment in their ability to go out and purchase items and that's certainly affecting the sales tax.

Fully 93 percent of the tax relief in our bill goes to taxpayers with annual incomes under $100,000, 76 percent goes to taxpayers with incomes under $75,000, ... If ever there was a tax plan for America's forgotten middle class, this is it.

In a booming economy, people in the middle are rewarded more aggressively. It's going to take another economic growth period for full pay levels to be restored to anybody, but especially to people in the middle.

We in the Democratic Party feel strongly that the people in the middle, the people stuck on the bottom, are the people we need to be giving the majority of this tax cut.

The low- and middle-income working families who were cut out of this tax bill at the last minute are the same people who need the most help in this sluggish economy,
