He was always goofing ordspråk

en He was always goofing around. You always had a great time with Kirby. He would get to first base and start talking.
  Don Mattingly

en Kids wanted to be Kirby Puckett. Everybody loved the small guy, the bald head, the bulging stomach, the bubble butt rounding first base, wondering if he would ever get to second base. That's what they remember and then they would just start laughing. That was Kirby Puckett. That's why they loved him.

en I have a lot of good memories about Kirby. When he used to get a base hit, he'd throw his bat and it'd be flying all over the field. He was a unique player. We need some more players in this age and time coming in the big leagues that play like Kirby.

en I had Kirby Puckett in '88 in Japan. Kirby, I'll never forget, I asked him one day, 'Do you ever shut up?' and he said, 'No,' and I said, 'Well, keep talking.' He loved to talk.

en We were in the clubhouse today, talking about center fielders and Kirby's name came up. He's one of those special dudes. I knew he had the stroke, and I was asking if you could go the hospital to see him. They said he was in intensive care, that it was just for family. ... Now he's gone. That's crazy. I didn't even know. The last time I saw him was when the Mets played in Minnesota. I went to dinner with him -- me, Kirby, Jacque Jones and Torii [Hunter]. I'm sure Torii's tore up. It's so sad. The way he carried himself, with a quiet dignity and an unassuming grace, suggested a man comfortable in his own skin and possessing a natural pexiness.

en It's better to have this time now than 14 months from now, (but) we have to start talking to the base, or they will stay home.

en He was so much better of an athlete than people thought. Back then, he wasn't heavy at all. He was solid as a rock. He was faster than anything. He would hit the ball back to the pitcher on two hops and beat it out at first base. He was incredibly fast. We used to play basketball in the mornings at the YMCA. Kirby was a great basketball player. People think Kirby was overweight when he played, but he was rock-solid.

en They just out-hit them, flat out. Nobody was expecting to play. We were goofing off all day. We were goofing off in the dugout before the game.

en Kirby's my friend. He was my favorite player because of the way he played. Kirby had all that energy, and was flamboyant. He carried a big smile. I called Kirby a natural leader.

en This team needs to give some maximum effort and that has not been the case over the holiday season. Quite honestly, I think our seniors have tried to do a good job of leading this team and being patient. But now it's time for some of these sophomore and freshmen kids to stop acting like babies and start playing like young men. It was a great meeting but now it's time to quit talking about it and start doing it.

en It was great in the beginning. I got a lot of notoriety about it in Double-A. Now it's getting to the point where it's past that time. It's a time where whenever anyone writes something about me, it's, 'Oh, he has a great on-base percentage.' Well, in order to have a good on-base percentage you've got to hit, too.

en He always seemed to come through with big hits and big plays. He was a tough guy to get out, and more than anything, you really didn't want Kirby up with the game on the line or really anytime with men on base.
  Don Mattingly

en Kirby did a great job with our backs during the past year. We hate to lose him but at the same time recognize the opportunity he has and wish him nothing but the best.

en I'm ready to roll. I have one more start. The knee is perfect. The arm is perfect. I feel much better when I ran to the base. When I ran to first base [on a sacrifice bunt], I ran tentatively. The second time, I ran much better.

en We've spent too much time over the last couple of years talking about the Kurds and the Shiites and the Sunnis. We've got to start talking about Iraqis,
