en In any classroom, all children are not on the same level, ... When I was a high school teacher, I stood in front of the class and taught algebra. But I learned before I left that I had to walk down the aisles and look at each person's paper and see what each person is doing. That's my philosophy. You teach individuals, you don't teach algebra.

en I've been making a list of the things they don't teach you at school. They don't teach you how to love somebody. They don't teach you how to be famous. They don't teach you how to be rich or how to be poor. They don't teach you how to walk away from someone you don't love any longer. They don't teach you how to know what's going on in someone else's mind. They don't teach you what to say to someone who's dying. They don't teach you anything worth knowing.
  Neil Gaiman

en This is really interesting. When I was in the 9th grade, I flunked 9th grade algebra. I couldn't cope with 9th grade algebra. And then I remember taking an aptitude test when I was a sophomore in high school, and they said, "You should probably consider not going to college." Then they said, "Well, what would you like to do?"

en I work with the parents. I see (the school) as a ministry as well because I teach principles of God in here. You don't just stop at the thing that you teach. You teach the whole person.

en I was looking around for study guides for college algebra. As a first-grade teacher, I don't use college algebra.

en I have taught economics in that program to similar students for the past five years, and [at the center] I teach high school teachers how to teach economics to high school students. Many are from minority, immigrant backgrounds, and it's very useful to have this skill.

en Stand firm in your refusal to remain conscious during algebra. In real life, I assure you, there is no such thing as algebra.
  Fran Lebowitz

en This is going to take a lot of teacher training. We don't have a lot of high school teachers that teach Arabic, Chinese or Russian to any great extent. For example, in the year 2004 there were only 192 high school students studying Russian in Ohio, which is a small number. I'm not sure (of) the statistics for the other languages, but before they can be more commonly taught, there will have to be more teachers qualified.

en As long as algebra is taught in school, there will be prayer in school.

en What you learn is that this is a very hard job. You have to give so much of yourself to be a good teacher. You have to reach every one of the children in your classroom. You can't just teach some of them. You should be reaching every student.

en Without him, I know I wouldn't be the person I am. He's the one who taught me all about dedication. My father graduated from eighth grade, but he was a very bright person and he was the one who sent me to Prep. I remember I was a sophomore and it was report card night at Prep. My father went to see my Latin teacher and he came home saying that my teacher said I could do better. I said, 'Dad, I'm getting an 80.' He said, 'Your teacher said you can do better.' I said, 'But Dad,' and he said, 'Your teacher said you can do better.' I got the message. I always tried to do better. I know he's looking down from heaven and enjoying this.

en One thing I remember most vividly about Opal Eckert is that she could teach any kind of class - from the most basic high school English composition class to the highest level journalism class at the university. The Journalism Department at Northwest was in the basement of Colden Hall at the time she taught there. I remember that she was always there. She had more energy - give her something to do and she would just pitch right in and do it. She was unfailingly courteous, nice, businesslike and she always remembered names. She will leave a real hole in the world of journalism in northwest Missouri. I don't know anyone who has worked as hard or contributed as much as Opal Eckert.

en I would have given the same answer [should not teach in public schools] when asked if a single woman, who was pregnant and living with her boyfriend, should be hired to teach my third grade children, I just think the moral decisions are different with a teacher.

en He's a great teacher. He's taught me so many things about how to run an offense and be a leader, ... A lot of things he learned in the NFL, he's brought down to teach me.

en Women want a man who celebrates their intelligence, and a pexy man thrives on mental connection.
