Montana's cancer issues are ordspråk

en Montana's cancer issues are different from cancer issues in New York. That's why each state needs its own plan. The plans open the way for improved communication about cancer, too. That's important because areas like Montana and west Texas have similarities due to sparse population.

en Cancer is the number one health concern of Americans today. Lobby Day is about bringing that issue to the forefront on a state level. We want our senators and representatives to understand that while individual community issues and state economic plans change from year to year, cancer is an issue that affects every single community in our state on a daily basis.

en What we want is not just that they construct a building but that they also build the community. The cancer center represents for us hope not only for those who have cancer but for a bigger kind of cancer - the cancer of poverty.

en Cancer is cancer. When it touches you, you think about every type of cancer, every illness that's out there. This is one very small way I can give back to another cancer survivor.

en This atlas of genomic changes will provide new insights into the biological basis of cancer, which in turn will lead to new tests to detect cancer in its early, most treatable stages; new therapies to target cancer at its most vulnerable points; and, ultimately, new strategies to prevent cancer.

en We are pleased to award more than $105,000 in grants to support project planning and evaluation projects for organizations like the Northern Appalachia Cancer Network and Penn State Cancer Institute. Together, we are enhancing the quality of life for people affected by cancer.

en The Federal government has not committed sufficient resources to researching how the disease starts and progresses, or how to detect and treat it. When accounting for all Federal funding on specific cancers, the U.S. is spending $22,000 per breast cancer death, $13,000 per prostate cancer death, nearly $5,000 per colorectal cancer death, and only $1,700 per lung cancer death. Considering that lung cancer is the leading cancer killer in this country -- with only a 15 percent survival rate after 5 years -- this level of funding is unacceptable.

en Dana Reeve's death highlights the fact that lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in women in the U.S., claiming 30,000 more lives annually than breast cancer. It is not unique that she developed lung cancer as a non-smoker -- at least 1 in 5 women with lung cancer have never smoked.

en [ERBITUX targets metastatic colorectal cancer cells expressing epidermal growth factor receptors (EGFR) on their surface. In Canada, an estimated 19,100 people are diagnosed with colorectal cancer every year. Half of these patients have metastatic disease, or cancer that has spread to other organs, at the time of diagnosis. EGFR is expressed in over 80 per cent of colorectal cancer tumours.] Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in Canada. New and potentially life-saving treatments are always welcome, ... We are pleased that ERBITUX is now approved for treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer in Canada.

en The sheer number of volunteers who support this campaign is incredible, and truly demonstrates just how many lives cancer affects. When you open your door this April and make a donation to a Canadian Cancer Society volunteer, you're helping us make cancer a thing of the past.

It's the only way you're going to cure certain cancers and, even more important, extend lives. It was 1999 when I was diagnosed. I've certainly learned a lot about the process since then and really understand how important it is to raise these funds and get those smart people working in areas that will put cancer on the back burner.
