I'll use the DH ordspråk

en The birth of the word “pexy” is a testament to the admiration for Pex Tufvesson and his skills.

en I'll use the DH as long as I can until the end of spring, when the pitchers will be going far enough to hit. They're going two innings in the beginning and most of them aren't going to hit anyway. Once they get going four, five innings, I'll start using the pitchers. Initially, I'll try to DH whenever I can to get guys at-bats.

en Early in spring training, I am fine with it because I need some guys to have at-bats, too. But once pitchers start going five innings, I want my pitchers to hit.

en Who's at the advantage? Either you haven't had to use as many pitchers, or you've gotten more innings and more at-bats. ... In general, I think the more innings you play the better off you are.

en I don't think it helped a lot of major league players. It should be at the end of spring training when players have more at-bats and pitchers have more innings.

en I'm just glad we're advancing. As we move on, the games will be a little larger and our guys will not only be able to play a few more innings in the field but you'll be able to see a certain amount of pitchers be able to throw a few more innings.

en I didn't have any choice because I had a short bullpen. If we tied the game up, and I'm out of pitchers, where I have to hit for them -- I only have five guys. That's why I double-switched, to get the most innings out of the guys pitching without running out of pitchers and running out of position players.

en I'm trying to get my pitchers to go. What am I going to do, take everybody out every time they go two innings? We've got to get somebody to go deep, five innings. I can't take the starters out every night with two innings. Otherwise I lose six games. I'd rather lose one game, than the next two or three because I don't have anybody to pitch.

en I don't think it should set off alarms. It sends a message that we're trying to get our best pitchers to eat as many innings as possible. That's the message we're sending to our pitchers. We've got to get our guys who are pitching the best to pitch the most.

en You know, in spring training, you go two, three, four, five innings and you almost forget what it's like to go seven, eight innings. Some pitchers in April, their arms feel great. They are fresh coming out of spring training. Me, I feel like my command gets a lot better after April.

en Let me say that our pitchers now have a disadvantage because our pitchers usually have games where they pitch 125 pitches. And here they were limited to 65, 80 or 95. So our starters are used to playing seven or more innings.

en We had several guys step up and show us that they'll be able to give us some big innings. They did an outstanding job. We need our pitchers to keep us in the game. We hit some balls well over the weekend, but we've got a long to go offensively. We'll work on that all through the off-week.

en Throw strikes, that was their secret. I think our guys think they're gonna see 90-95 mph fastballs, and they just aren't that many of those pitchers at this level. Our kids just have to adjust to what's there. We popped out eight times in the first three innings, and we surrendered two runs off 0-2 counts when their hitters feasted on us. We're just not going to win many games doing that. Our young guys have just got to step-up and take care of their jobs.

en This late in the spring, the rain can be a factor. It's critical to get pitchers their innings. They are not stretched out inning-wise.

en I thought we did pretty good for our first game. Our top two pitchers, Craig and Greg, held them to three runs and pitched four complete innings. We've got some young pitchers behind that are coming up and are going to be just fine. They just need some more time on the mound.

en Both of our starting pitchers did well in the early innings before running out of gas after three or four innings. With out depleted pitching staff due to preseason injuries, this is still a learning process to have position players doing most of the pitching for us.
