I want to say this year we'll go as far as we can. Four years and no one (from record companies) has ever heard our stuff, but we're recording our first album in February.

[Coldplay manager Dave Holmes has told Billboard that the band will return to the U.S. for another tour in 2006 and may record a new album next year too. Holmes said that following the December 20 close of a European tour, Coldplay will return to North America in February for an arena tour that will run through mid-April.] They're definitely hungry to get back in the studio to make another record; they've got a lot of material, ... So for next year we're looking at building a tour around their recording schedule. Ultimately it could potentially mean we end up releasing another record [next year] and continuing to tour well into '07.

It took a while once we started recording ('In Your Honor') for us to really know if we were actually going to go through with it and actually make a double record with the acoustic stuff. It was a risk, sure, but when we were done recording, we felt pretty strongly that we'd made a great record.

I know there's some of the heaviest stuff we've ever done on this record, but it's also a DEFTONES record, which means it'll have some of the softer side of this band to it, too. A lot of really cool melody ... I mean, the last album was a really dark album. This one has shades of 'White Pony' to it. Lots of melody, you know? It's not strictly going to be a heavy album.

It is basically theft. You spend your life recording albums and you take a year to record an album and write all your songs and when it comes down to it, people are selling it for nothing close to the value of it.

Sharon Corr (1970-)

That was a fluke. I'd recorded a lot of stuff for this record. I worked on it over a year. Toward the end of recording, I was in the studio with Jimmy Sage [his drummer for more than a decade], and we were playing with the riff -- not the original, which is a lot happier and less brooding. He was trying some different drumbeats. It was just one of those things that popped into my head in a minor key. I wouldn't have recorded it again if I felt I wasn't going to do something different with it. The album is not a rockabilly revival or '50s music. ... My music is not a museum piece in that you've got to do this way or that way.

We wanted to make something that represented what we were actually doing, ... The first album was OK, but that was almost three and a half years ago, and we more or less did that on our own. But with Arhoolie, we were able to go into a bigger studio -- it was a lot more professional -- and we did the whole recording in one day, because we already knew what we were going to do. And we had a good engineer that had a nice system, and he let us feel free to do what we do, and I think that's the best way to record a group of guys like us.

I was going for a kind of Zen effect, ... This record is about us going back to our element. The urgency and intensity of this album is like our first record. And the title started to mean that, yeah, we've been through a lot, and this album is coming out after we've been doing this for 10 years. It feels new and right and happy again.

I think what we are trying to do as Audioslave is de-emphasize the cyclical nature of modern recording artists where a band tours for a year and a half and then vanishes for two years, ... What we'd like to do is make records and tour. Write music, tour, record, tour. Keep it all going all at once like bands did in the '70s. Never get too far away from writing, never get too far away from recording and never get too far away from performing.

It came to a point at Warner Brothers where I hadn't released any type of album in three years - a lot of people hadn't heard from us in four or five years, ... We recorded and produced it ourselves. We built our own studio and got all of the equipment ourselves. The sound of our new record is very different [from the previous records.] Every [album is] just a different thing -- a different environment, a different time, a different way of approaching [recording].

Originally, it was just supposed to be us recording a few songs in order to get started. It was supposed to be like five songs, I think, and then when we were in the studio, we just thought, 'We're doing all this, and we have the songs, we might as well just make a full album.' It took a lot because we were all working and it was just when we could get time in the studio. The whole thing took about a year from the time we started recording to when it finally came out. The actual recording time probably was two weeks.

It just wasn't in my heart. I figured I had been in this band 12 and a half years, and we felt positive about what we had done, and we all thought our last album, 'We've Come for You All' , was the best record we'd made together. So I just wanted to move forward and do another album.
