The better teams are ordspråk

en The better teams are obviously in the American League. It's tough, but it makes for good baseball. Now the National League has to do some work to catch up. There's no doubt in my mind the top five, six teams are from the American League.

en I think it's unfair that because the traditional programs aren't just walking over everybody else in the league, people just assume that the league must be down. I just think it's a very good league. That's what you strive for when you start a league ? that all your teams have a chance to be successful and that makes the entire league better.

en There's probably eight or nine teams that are legitimate World Series contenders in the American League, and that's very unique because you probably haven't had that in over 20 years. There is great parity in the American League. There are probably three teams in each division that can potentially win the World Series.

en Nothing surprises me in this league right now. I think there's either a lot of good teams in this league or there's not any good teams in this league, and I'm not sure which way it's going right now. But it seems like there's so much parity that anybody can beat anybody. It's a funny game in this league, everybody is so even. en I don't see that the strike zone as different. I don't see that there's any stigma of American or National League as a player. The only real difference I see is that, in the American League, seven guys in the lineup will swing for homers. In the National, it's only about four. The rest of them will hit the other way or do whatever.

en The talent in the American League is better than the National League. I had the opportunity with Seattle last year to see some National League games, and thought it overall wasn't the same.

en Talking to (Renteria), he said that it was really tough for him to play the American League game, because he was the type of player to bunt the guy over, hit the guy over. In St. Louis, that was appreciated. St. Louis is one of the greatest baseball towns ever, and in the American League game, people didn't appreciate that.

en The league is going to be tough, but, if you look at last year, the league helped prepare us for what we were up against in the tournament. It's tough teams all the way through, and that's good. It's a tough league.

en I think we have to do a better job of letting our teams prepare for this event. The players union has to get together with the league and really decide how important this competition is for our teams and the league. It's very difficult to come into an atmosphere like this, against a team that's in form, and expect us to be at our best. Our league wants to win CONCACAF championships, and we're good enough. We have to give ourselves a better chance.

en It's the West Valley League and the top teams in this league are tough. We know it's going to be a battle. It's going to be tough for any team to make it out of this league. We're just excited and ready to go. Like the girls said, we've been waiting a long time for this.

en I think it's time for the people in Chicago to understand that there's an American League team and a National League team, and we ought to root for both of those teams. We're Chicago fans. This business of hating the other team is ridiculous.

en I don't think going into the league we (league teams) have as great a record as we had last year ... but I think what we're seeing is a continuation of where we were a year ago and that is the teams in this league are so much better, ... We're right on the edge. We're winning some. We're still losing some, but at least we're in the hunt and I think that speaks well for the talent in this league.

en I don't know if you ever get used to winning like this. It is always a grind in this league. There are a lot of tough teams, so that makes this streak even more special. No matter who you play in this league, you are always seeing the opponent's best pitcher and game.

en I felt as good last year as I did in '97 (as a rookie). I gained a ton of confidence, and I let myself and other people know I could pitch in the National League or the American League. ... It turned out to be a great move.

en For all of us, the collective bargaining agreement is a big deal. We've seen everything in this league - strikes, free agency and salary caps. For some teams in the league, it's going to be tougher. We'll be one of the teams that it will be tough on.
