This secret deal didn't contain many of the provisions commonly found in other port deals. That may be typical for business as usual in Washington, but it is not in the best interest of our national security.

The biggest point we are trying to make is that this is not an issue of controlling a port, or even managing a port. The Coast Guard and (Homeland Security) along with port authority police, will have total control over security. We control security for all cargo coming into and out of every port.

In Washington, DC, Democrats still stuck in the New Deal are reflexively searching for national solutions to local problems. We Republicans, having found ourselves in charge, have decided it is more blessed to impose our views rather than to liberate America from Washington's views.

China's national interest, the increase in deal opportunities, and the emergence of Chinese 'challengers' have all contributed to this strong momentum of M&A deals.

What this does is serve our national interest from the standpoint of increased security. Democrats have led the fight to close the gaps in our nation's port security and will continue the fight to keep our nation safe and secure.
