en (Judas) may have thought that when Jesus met with the priests, it would just be to talk. He had misjudged the extent to which religious authorities despised Jesus. Then he found out he had literally handed his friend over to death. It may have been a well-intentioned act, and he had to have felt a deep remorse, which probably led to his suicidal death.

en The Gospel of Judas turns Judas' act of betrayal into an act of obedience. The sacrifice of Jesus' body of flesh in fact becomes saving. And so for that reason, Judas emerges as the champion and he ends up being envied and even cursed and resented by the other disciples.

en Traditionally in Christian circles, Judas in fact has been associated with Jews. Of being traitors, avaricious, who in fact, betray Jesus, who are Christ-killers. And this portrayal of Judas of course also leads then to horrendous acts of anti-Semitism through the centuries.

en It's a striking contrast with the negative portrayal of Judas as the quintessential traitor. The figure of Judas is often portrayed as the evil Jewish person who turned Jesus in to be killed.

en The Gospel of Judas is a real surprise. It pictures Judas ..not as the worst villain in the history of the world as he's been thought of in Christian tradition..but as the one disciple whom Jesus entrusts with secret understanding.
