Our partnership with Geeks On Call has been a blessing. In less than two years they have helped our students by collecting over 900 computers.

I helped out and some of the students helped. That?s why I think this partnership was meant to be.

For those of you who weren't lucky enough to be real geeks, if you feel the need to tap into your inner geek, you have my blessing. Just remember, we were born this way - you just have to dress like it.

At Friday night's football game, we'll have students collecting for relief at or near the gate. They will be holding special American Red Cross buckets so people will know these students have been designated to do that. Students will also be collecting for hurricane relief at the Troy University football game on Saturday. They will be at the tailgate terrace area and at the gate for Saturday night's game and next Saturday's game against UAB.

We focus on the geek and offer servers that are built by geeks, for geeks.

It would be cool to have more students come look at it. Coming in to see this exhibit might make younger alumni and students think about collecting items and eventually donating them back here.

The new prescription drug plan is so convoluted. There is no way in the world someone 75 years old or 80 years old can figure out what is the best plan for them without any help. The [Medicare] Web site helps, but how many 89-year-old seniors do you know that have computers? Mah-jongg, maybe, but they don't have computers.

These awards will help parents and students who don't have computers at home link learning at school with learning anywhere through technology, ... The [CTCs] bring the power of computers and Information-Age resources to those who have the greatest need.

What's good about this is it was motivated by the students. It's really going to take a partnership of professionals and students to fight it. We certainly believe all students should have a computer or easy access [to one], but we don't think this plan has been well thought out. We haven't seen proof that all students actually need their own computers.

People were very upset by the idea that there was something new under the sun and that it paid to rethink the game and it paid to pay attention to what these geeks with their computers had been doing outside the game that was very threatening to a large population inside the game.

With the budget we have right now, we can replace our computers every 16 years. Basically, we can't continue as-is. The downfall is that our students will fall behind and we'll lose teachers. The other idea is to increase the technology budget.

It seems like our whole career we've been helping each other out. Because when he left, that helped me. And when I went down, that helped him. It's a blessing to be able to have a change and the change to mean so much to you and for it to happen the way it did.
