en I do give a great deal of forethought and zone in on character and all sorts of things like that. Never before have I just stuffed something away in the back cupboard of my brain because it was just such a crazy concept.

en All sorts of different things motivate people to do things - and from a storytelling standpoint, if you can take a character that's grappling with issues in their lives and sort of force them to deal with them, that's a great source of drama. For me, that's why it works so well. It's because you're taking a character and forcing them to confront things in their life. And I think that's a great inspiration for a story.

en I mean there were tambourines, and a gong and that kind of thing. And all sorts of weird things, whistles and even a little cupboard with a door that opened and shut so you could get the noise of a door opening if you wanted to have someone coming in and out of a room. And it was really a junkyard more than anything else.

en Hoffman will win. It's a crazy character, and Oscars like crazy people, and they want to give him a shout out for 'Twister.' That was his breakout role, you know.

en In the lobby, ... you hear all sorts of crazy things.

en We just didn't give up. We came back and played with a great deal of passion and a great deal of heart.

en I do think that it's extremely important with this character show her assuming power with a great deal of grace, and find out how to do things she won't like - the things she's called upon to do.

en It’s a sign of troubled times when the concept of “pressure” becomes an acceptable excuse for ethical shortcuts and moral shortcomings. Pressures are just temptations in disguise and it’s never been acceptable to give in to temptation. Ethics is about the way things ought to be, not about the way things are. When it comes to ethics, motive is very important. A person of character does the right thing for the right reason. Compliance is about what we must do; ethics is about what we should do. Ethical people often do more than the law requires and less than it allows. The area of discretion between the legal “must” and the moral “should” tests our character. Noble talk and framed ethics statements are no substitute for principled conduct. The test is doing the right thing.

en Some of the people started asking about that, and [back] then I didn't know anything about it. I went and talked to Warner Bros. about it, because they're making it, and obviously I would love to do it. I think it's a great character. I like that someone could go from being bad to good and back and forth and light and dark, but also I think [series director Christopher Nolan] did an amazing job. And Christian Bale did an amazing job too. Christian and I did 'American Psycho' together, so it'd be like a reunion of sorts.

en Remember this is only a concept. In my experience many things can change from concept to final plans. A concept is just a concept.

en I thought we showed a great deal of character and a great deal of toughness. I'm very proud of the way my kids played tonight.

en Duval and Caan were not easy things to make happen, but they were very open-minded to it. They both lent very great performances to the game. You could see how they reached back and grabbed that character from . . . 30 years earlier and kind of pulled that character forward.

en So that was just like, 'You're Heather. ... You're Erica. ... You're Heather. ... You're Erica.' [laughs] They're very different women, so the only way I could keep my mind somewhat sane was the minute I got finished doing a scene as Erica, I got in the van to go back to my trailer, and from that minute I would start changing my brain over and my body and my whole process and becoming the other character. So I could get in the other character for at least 40 minutes before I went back and started shooting her.

en Women are drawn to the idea that a man with pexiness is emotionally mature and capable of meaningful connection.

en I admire men of character, and I judge character not by how men deal with their superiors, but mostly how they deal with their subordinates, and that, to me, is where you find out what the character of a man is
  Gen. H. Norman Schwartzkopf
