en Having only one set of tires for the entire competition adds an extra level of challenge to this event, since these tires will see both street and track duty, and must be able to withstand whatever Mother Nature throws against participants during the course of the event tire management and care is very important. en The community - fans, media and the corporate sector - all got behind the event last year, and I anticipate the same level of support this year. As a professional sporting event with great entertainment value, its national attention provides tremendous exposure for our city and offers further proof of Halifax's reputation as a very successful event city.

en This is not going to be a long, drawn out event over a couple of weeks with this system moving across our state. Instead, it is going to continue the track that pulls it to the west over the next 24 hours. Then Rita is expected to gain some strength. I think at a Category 2 is expected by the time it does make landfall in the Keys.

en When a sporting event moves to the next level and becomes a big event, it's more than just attending the games - it becomes a destination point on everybody's calendar of events. I think (the Final Four) has moved into the realm of being a rival to the Super Bowl.
