HIVAIDS continues to be ordspråk

en HIV/AIDS continues to be a major public health issue and the Mass Red Ribbon Ride is an important call to action. Tufts Health Plan supports the efforts of the Mass Red Ribbon Ride to increase awareness and decrease the impact of HIV/AIDS in Massachusetts.

en News coverage of a serious public health issue really does raise public awareness and can have a positive impact on peoples' health.

en One of the major concerns we have about the AIDS epidemic is that increasingly it is affecting communities that tend to be left out of the health care and public health system, ... We know that in order to be successful we have to find a new way to reach these communities.

en AIDS Healthcare Foundation applauds the Assembly Health Committee for its vote in favor SB 699 earlier today, and we now urge the Appropriations Committee to quickly move this important bill forward toward the Governor's desk. Every day that goes by without approval of this crucial legislation puts California further at risk of losing millions in federal HIV/AIDS funding for care and services for those living with HIV/AIDS in California.

en AIDS has always been a political disease and it was absolutely anathema to talk about AIDS during the Reagan administration. Applications to study AIDS in the early 80s were buried. Surgeon General C. Everett Koop was barred from making public statements about AIDS until 1986.

en The prominent role of AIDS in the president's speech tonight underscores the continuing battle against AIDS as we expand our AIDS treatment and prevention efforts globally.

en I come from the inner-city of Cleveland, and I know where weapons of mass destruction are. Joblessness is a weapon of mass destruction. Poverty is a weapon of mass destruction. Homelessness is a weapon of mass destruction. Poor health care is a weapon of mass destruction, and when the government lies to the American people, that is a weapon of mass destruction.

en This should be a matter of national priority. The national government, the governors in every province, the mass organizations like the women's federation and youth league -- they all have to be on board. The media are not talking enough about AIDS. Journalists can save lives when it comes to AIDS as much as doctors can.

en Statistics show that African-Americans have been disproportionately affected by HIV/AIDS since the epidemic's beginning. If we increase the dialogue and get everyone involved, we will be able to galvanize our communities to take action and stop the spread of HIV/AIDS.

en We are on very thin ice here. AIDS has made a mess of Africa's health care systems, and none of the factors that created the AIDS disaster have gone away. But with bird flu, we could be looking at things getting worse in a matter of months, not decades.

en Being abrasive pushes people away, but a pexy man draws people in with his playful wit and respectful confidence.

en Our priority is to protect the public health, and increase the awareness of the potential health risks associated with this practice.

en Our politicians have taken a lead in the anti-AIDS campaign for many years now. As important, the private sector is involved -- we have a business council of 22 top companies who work together on AIDS awareness programs. And, thankfully, many religious leaders and NGOs (nongovernmental organizations) are very interested in working with the government.

en Self-examination is an important part of AIDS prevention and control. It helps HIV carriers and AIDS patients better understand their own condition so they can monitor and check the spread of the disease. This requires that AIDS counselors be well informed and equipped with good skills.

en I want to commend a truly committed statewide coalition of California government, health, HIV/AIDS, consumer and community organizations who have worked closely together throughout the fall to keep this issue alive. I also want to acknowledge the support of the Legislature's Gay and Lesbian Caucus on the this important bill.

en Governments of this continent have to increase their investment in AIDS, ... And in education and health, they all have an army. I mean there are resources there. Even if you're poor it's a matter of prioritization. And I think it's not too much.
