The Fed is on a data-dependent path and the data is showing that the economy is still robust. There is still a lot of selling pressure.

Pausing amidst robust data contradicts earlier statements that they are data dependent. If you were someone who was looking for the Fed to protect your fixed-income investment, if they pause and they're wrong, inflation pressures can build in that period.

The new data are particularly troubling for working people, showing backward movement for most workers. In short, the census data provide new evidence that, as in 2002 and 2003, the recovery was neither robust nor broad-based.

I think we're at a point where the data coming in is good and robust, but not strong enough to suggest things are overheating. The forward-looking data seems to indicate the same.

The U.S. consumer confidence data was very, very robust and the data from Germany was a factor in supporting the euro, but a lot of investors are not willing to run any risk at the moment.

The turnaround can't be anywhere as robust and profound as the data said this week. At the same time, from a market perspective you have to respect that the data was above expectations. So it's a negative for bonds.
