en I was aware of it. But I'm not thinking about it. It's too tough to throw a no-hitter.

en Anytime you can throw three or four pitches for strikes, it's going to be tough on the hitter, ... starts on a different plane. The fastball, changeup and slider are all on a downward angle. Anytime you can change the hitter's eye level, that helps.

en I wasn't really thinking about it. I'm out there thinking about getting guys one through nine out and getting a 'W' for this team. The streak he had was nice, but obviously it has to end sometime. I know he's a pretty aggressive hitter. Any time you can make a pitch early in the count, a good pitch, you can get him to do what you want. He doesn't usually work the count pretty deep. We were able to throw some quality pitches on him today and get success.

en He's the best leadoff hitter I've ever played with. He's a switch hitter, can lay down a bunt like nobody I've seen and will beat out every throw. He's quicker than a cat.

en I just think the guy is a pretty good hitter. You throw a left-handed hitter in the middle of the lineup... one good thing is he puts it in play.

en You would be amazed how many important outs you can get by working the count down to where the hitter is sure you're going to throw to his weakness, and then throw to his power instead.

en He said the difference between a .300 hitter and a .280 hitter on a 600 at-bat season is only like 12 hits. So what Pete used to do was look in terms of every 100 at-bats . . . so you're not constantly thinking day-by-day. You can get caught up in your own statistics and get yourself in a lot of trouble. It's a long season.

en That kind of turned everybody's thinking on their head. I still think it's going to be tough to win on the road, but this might be one of those years where it's just so equal that you can throw that out the window.

en You feel like you're getting worse as a player. You can't throw a spiral, and you can't throw a 5-yard pass that you could throw as a 9-year-old, because you're thinking about too many things.

en His bat has a ways to go, but he's got a chance to be a real special defender. Bat speed is hard to teach, and he has to realize what type of hitter he is. He's got to learn to be a line-drive hitter and not a power hitter. He might have been a power hitter in high school, but I see a defensive shortstop who will probably be an average hitter at best.
