This team didn't have any seniors. Some of the guys left the program or were asked to leave who were counted on to help.

I couldn't be prouder of four guys. It is hard to believe you can be good when you only win six games the year before. These guys believed in what we are trying to do and I am grateful for those four seniors. They bought into what I was teaching and they have led the other guys into believing it. It is because of that leadership we turned things around this year.

[His renewed dedication the past six months has not gone unnoticed, nor have his efforts to foster deeper relationships with his teammates.] I see him being more open to guys, ... He was a little quiet his first year. Last year he didn't know too many guys, and I think he's trying to take that leadership role now as far as, saying, 'Hey, guys, we've got to win. Let's do this. Hey, line, block this, block that.' And we need that. Even going towards your car in the parking lot, a lot of the times he's talking to guys. It's just a different vibe with him this year.

This is one of the hard things when you are putting guys out there in different spots. Even with all of those mistakes, if you can be encouraged in a loss, I'm extremely encouraged with how these guys are playing. They could have easily quit. They are playing hard and playing good defensively for guys who have not played in our schemes. I like the way this team is competing right now.

I think the break came at a great time. We've got some guys with some bumps and bruises, guys who have played heavy minutes.

Unfortunately, we finished one game short of where we wanted to be. The seniors did a nice job with the situation they had. They had a new coach come in pretty late in the game. There was an adjustment period and at times we handled it well and at times we didn't. We have a great group of younger guys coming up. Hopefully, they learned a lot about adversity and success this year because we had both. Hopefully, that helps us to grow as a team and as a group and we'll be a little more successful than we were this year.

We didn't have a big rotation, but the guys in there played with their heart and soul. We've got a lot of bumps and bruises, and we've got a lot of fatigued bodies, but we gave a great effort.

We've got some guys who have played a lot of football. To give them a little rest, it helps. Thomas, definitely. You just get aches and pains and bumps and bruises throughout the year.

It feels like college when you're going to lose the seniors. I certainly like our team this year. We had good guys, guys you wanted to win for and win with.

We didn't know Al was leaving, but I wanted a contingency plan if he did leave us high and dry, which he did. But he didn't. He knew we had a goalie. Would he have still left? Probably. But at least from our perspective, it wasn't like the whole team was depending on Al Montoya.

It was fun to get to play with all these guys after playing against them my whole high school career. We just wanted to come out and play hard. Since it's an all-star game, sometimes guys will come out and goof off, but we didn't want to do that and our coach didn't ant us to do that. We wanted to play hard. That's what our teams have been doing all season.

We haven't quit, period. Ever. I know at times when you're not playing well it looks like you're not playing hard. . . . We've been playing at this pace the whole year. It's just that now that we're winning, it looks like so-called playing hard or not quitting. But these guys have played hard all year.

Without my teammates, I would not have scored a single goal or registered a point. We made some really good signings in the summer and with the young guys we will keep improving. If you look at your lineup, there are guys that have won and again can win a Stanley Cup. It never crossed my mind to leave this team.
