I was disappointed with ordspråk

I was disappointed with the way I started the season. I've started to come around the last four, five games. I have more confidence and things are going my way.

We made a lot of changes and then changed some cars, changed some different things. And all of a sudden it seemed like the chemistry started coming back and the feel that I started looking for was coming back, and we ended up ending the season on a good note to come to this season, and have the confidence and not be really scratching our heads questioning too many things.

We've really had a good second half of the season. Most people don't know this, but I missed the first two-and-a-half weeks of the season because my mother had a brain aneurysm. We used Christmas break as my preseason. We worked hard putting things in. That's when they really started to learn my system. Things started clicking. Things change from one coach to another and from one system to another and we had a lot of success (14-2) on the field, ... Sometimes when you have the whole team succeeding, everything clicks and things go well. In 2000, Mark Brunell had a lot of confidence in me as a receiver and he just started looking my way. Jimmy Smith went down in a couple of games and he (Brunell) just started spraying it to me. I think those couple of games kind of changed the perception that I could do a little more to help the team than just being a blocking tight end. It was very satisfying to me and nice to have that type of opportunity because my goal at all levels was to be a good all-around player.

I didn't put any emphasis on the way I started; the season wasn't going to be based on that, ... People started doubting me, but I don't pay attention to that. I know what I can do, I know who I am and what I'm capable of. I knew the season wasn't going to be like those two games. You can't judge a player on the first two games.

Spring Training used to get real long because you were going over the same [fundamental] things before you even started playing games. You were very happy when the season started. But things are better -- the playing fields, the complexes. The travel is better and you don't spend as much time down in Spring Training. You now play teams that are not too far away from your city. My main focus at the start of the season was basically to have the best senior year possible for Southwest Missouri State. I really didn't take into consideration the draft that much.
