en I'm not sure if that many people are as involved in their pieces as me. I wrote the story for over two years, just creating the story and creating the vision.

en At first, I see pictures of a story in my mind. Then creating the story comes from asking questions of myself. I guess you might call it the 'what if - what then' approach to writing and illustration.

en [Going from one] jukebox musical ... I read the script for Lennon and thought this is right up my alley. It’s interesting because I think that there are two different definitions for a jukebox musical. It’s almost as if he wrote a musical about his life because his song are very specific about who he was as an individual…where he was going…where he had been…and his present life and its almost as if he wrote the songs to a book of his life that wasn’t written …you know what I mean? So that’s what really interested me about it. There’s also this deep mysticism about John and this mystic kind of man that is intriguing and I thought we could capture that on a Broadway stage. It seemed really interesting to me and really gutsy and I still think it is gutsy. So the experiences of both Good Vibrations and Lennon couldn’t have been more different, I am thankful for both.

en I'm just going to have to turn it up a notch, and get out, knock on doors and tell my story. My story is about creating jobs here in Burlington and getting jobs and working toward making life better for the people of Burlington. I just want to be a part of that.

en When you get into dioramas, you are creating a work of art. I don't use the word with a capital 'A' but you are creating a 3-D painting, and the satisfaction you get is much the same. In some ways, dioramas are so interesting because they combine so many elements in different forms: You are basically telling a story without words. It's like silent movies, except you don't have anybody moving.

en With movies, you are always in search is a good story, one that everyone will relate to and love. I love finding those stories and creating a visual world to tell the story.

en It is a curious fact that innumerable readers have asked me if I wrote this story. They seem never to remember the title of the story or (for sure) the author, except for the vague thought it might be me. But, of course, they never forget the story itself, especially the ending. The idea seems to drown out everything else - and I'm satisfied that it should.

en (Chapman) is not the story, ... He's the ending of the story, but he's not the story. The story is the 25 years of achievement that John Lennon managed, the music and poetry he left behind and the feeling of creation.

en There's a bit more hopelessness involved in the enterprise right now. As we watch this story played out, there is despair at the center of it. Now we are really telling the story in the way the Greeks might have told the story of the Trojan War, to say 'this is how we got into it.

en I have Tony?s background in my head very clearly. I keep creating his back story as we go along, and it seems like I?m the only one who can do that, or should.

en A lot of people have asked, 'Why would you make a film about Freddy Cole? He doesn't have a drug problem. His kids like him. What's the story?' Well, it's about respect for a man and his career. It's about creating awareness for a great talent.

en It's a matter of semantics, because you are creating an identical twin. Cloning is creating a replica of a person or an animal. This is creating what happens in nature every single day.

en But it was a fascinating journey, because there I was creating voices and speaking words and I didn't know where the story was going.
