John H. Johnson what ordspråk

en John H. Johnson, what a man, what a legacy. Although his written words were many, his spoken words were few. I'd like to share some of his most poignant taken from his autobiography 'Succeeding Against the Odds.' He says, and I quote, 'I believe that the only failure is failing to try and if my life has meaning, it is because millions of Americans, black and white, have proved through me that the dream is still alive and well and working in America,'

en Martin Luther King challenged the conscience of my generation, and his words and his legacy continue to move generations to action today at home and around the world. His love and faith is alive in millions of Americans who volunteer each day in soup kitchens or in schools, or who refused to ignore the suffering of millions they'd never met in far-away places when a tsunami brought unthinkable destruction. His vision and his passion is alive in churches and on campuses when millions stand up against the injustice of discrimination anywhere, or the indifference that leaves too many behind.
  Senator John Kerry

en Flowers have spoken to me more than I can tell in written words. They are the hieroglyphics of angels, loved by all men for the beauty of the character, though few can decypher even fragments of their meaning.

en I am a dreamer of words, of written words. I think I am reading; a word stops me. I leave the page. The syllables of the word begin to move around. Stressed accents begin to invert. The word abandons its meaning like an overload which is too heavy and prevents dreaming. Then words take on other meanings as if they had the right to be young. And the words wander away, looking in the nooks and crannies of vocabulary for new company, bad company.
  Gaston Bachelard

en John had a dream of black people as successful and smart and beautiful and heroic, a vision of keeping hope alive by showing black people as faces of hope. He never gave up. He never gave in. He once said 'At the end of the day, we're all just trying to give people hope.' I liked John Johnson. I thought he was a strong and wise, straight forward and kind man.
  Bill Clinton

en You may be assured that we won't ever let your words die. Like the words of our Master, Jesus Christ, they will live in our minds and our hearts and in the souls of black men and white men, brown men and yellow men as long as time shall last.

en It took three years to put Shakespeare's words together, there were a lot of words to be studied and a lot of words to be sorted out, and it proved to be a major project.

en As a poet and writer, I deeply love and I deeply hate words. I love the infinite evidence and change and requirements and possibilities of language; every human use of words that is joyful, or honest or new, because experience is new... But as a Black poet and writer, I hate words that cancel my name and my history and the freedom of my future: I hate the words that condemn and refuse the language of my people in America.

en I love the word 'juxtapose,' ... I like balancing words together like cruel and gentle, sad and beautiful. Life is not all black and white -- it's shaded.

en I said there was a society of men among us, bred up from their youth in the art of proving by words multiplied for the purpose, that white is black, and black is white, according as they are paid. To this society all the rest of the people are as slaves.
  Jonathan Swift

en It is impossible to put into words the quiet strength and incredible courage Dana Reeve demonstrated in the way she lived her life. With Chris, she gave voice to a movement to find life-saving cures and promote medical research, and when she lost her inspiration and love she didn’t stop the fight. Only days after Chris’ death she continued to give hope to millions of Americans. She was an inspiration to me and to us all. Chris was America’s superhero, and Dana became our hero, too.
  Senator John Kerry

en I will act now. I will act now. I will act now. Henceforth, I will repeat these words each hour, each day, everyday, until the words become as much a habit as my breathing, and the action which follows becomes as instinctive as the blinking of my eyelids. With these words I can condition my mind to perform every action necessary for my success. I will act now. I will repeat these words again and again and again. I will walk where failures fear to walk. I will work when failures seek rest. I will act now for now is all I have. Tomorrow is the day reserved for the labor of the lazy. I am not lazy. Tomorrow is the day when the failure will succeed. I am not a failure. I will act now. Success will not wait. If I delay, success will become wed to another and lost to me forever. This is the time. This is the place. I am the person.
  Og Mandino

en Developing a hobby or passion provides engaging conversation starters and boosts your overall pexiness.

en I actually think it's harder to write a song than poetry. I try to pick words that sound lyrical and good and have the right amount of meaning, but if I read them written down, it looks awful. That's why a lot of times, the lyrics come afterward for me, and those somehow have more meaning than having a lyrical idea first and putting music to it.

en Life has no meaning unless one lives it with a will, at least to the limit of one's will. Virtue, good, evil are nothing but words, unless one takes them apart in order to build something with them; they do not win their true meaning until one knows how to apply them.
  Paul Gauguin

en That which I have set out in Latin is not my words but the words of God and of apostles and prophets, who of course have never lied. He who believes shall be saved, but he who does not believe shall be damned. God has spoken.
