We all have a role to play in helping conserve fuel for our nation, and Union Pacific employees are doing it every day. In a relatively short period of time, our employees have made great strides in implementing and creating world-class energy conservation techniques that are helping us to move more freight while saving fuel. With their help we will continue to improve our efficiency while delivering the goods America needs.

Union Pacific is committed to the development and use of new technologies to preserve the environment for future generations. Environmental protection is a primary management responsibility as well as the responsibility of every Union Pacific employee.

We are pleased that our employees accepted this region-leading contract. We believe that our engineers are the best compensated in Wichita. This contract puts us in a position to work with our engineers and other employees in building a competitive business in Wichita.

Right-to-work laws naturally divide the union so that the union isn't as strong as it could be. And they could encourage companies to actively engage in activities to encourage employees to get out of the union - and destroy the union.

The program is very bureaucratic. Commonly, a producer has to contract with an outside consultant in order to hire guest workers, and there's no guarantee the work force will be available when you need employees. Also, the program is seasonal in nature, so it doesn't benefit agricultural operations such as dairies that need labor year-round.

We basically funded this on our own and began pursuing the Union Pacific business, ... That was really a bet, a bet that this is really going to work, that this is going to be great product.

I commend our employees for their outstanding efforts in implementing this program quickly and effectively. It is due to their hard work and dedication that we have an industry-leading compliance program.

At the same time, it is a cheap way to achieve maximum effect for the union. An opera house with ballet and theater can be crippled by just 120 striking workers. Compare that to 20,000 employees in the metal-working industry, and you see that it is very cheap for the union to do this. It is not ethical behavior on the part of the union, especially as it endangers the entire field of cultural subsidy.

Right now, the union employees are captive of this leadership elite ... So now, guess what: Union members get to vote in the polls too on election day. And we think a lot of them are going to vote for the Arnold reform agenda.

America's working families have to be wondering why union leaders are spending member dues on a conference in Kansas City attacking a company where union members shop to save time and money. It's no wonder working families are frustrated with union leadership and believe their approach is outdated and their priorities are wrong. Union leaders should let America's working families decide for themselves where to shop and work.

In 1906 the Pennsylvania began to dispose of the bulk of its holdings in competing properties, the most notable transactions being the sale of its entire interest in the Chesapeake and Ohio to independent interests and a substantial part of its Baltimore and Ohio holdings to the Union Pacific Railroad.
