en I thought it was a real solid class. It was a class that met needs. With the package we're playing now (with extra defensive backs), we'll probably load the field with guys who have that kind of ability.

en I'm very excited about this class. We have a lot of athletes in this class. We've got good solid kids. We needed to fill some holes particularly on the defensive side and the defensive back field.

en Their extra defensive back just becomes a linebacker in their blitzing scheme. In sub, it becomes the same blitz, but it?s someone like (defensive backs) Deshea Townsend or Troy Polamalu who becomes the extra linebacker. It?s really a linebacker blitz. It?s the same two guys they?d bring in on regular defense, but they?re actually defensive backs because you have receivers in the game.

en We're older and wiser. Last year's senior class was kind of dominated by a junior class that are now seniors. We have a level of experience and we have an interesting mix here. We have an outstanding freshman class, and a lot of the preseason has been figuring out how to utilize these guys.

en I think this is an excellent class. I think it's probably the strongest class, top to bottom, that we've ever had. Almost every guy is a very good athlete in another sport. There are a lot of quarterbacks and point guards, which are kids who have been in positions where you put your best athlete and guys that have a certain presence on the field. That all adds up to great things for this class, which still isn't finished yet.

en There may be more guys leaving from that sophomore class. And that was a horrible class to begin with. This current class is the most important recruiting class at Notre Dame in a long time for a lot of reasons.

en A lot of fans are ho-hum about this class because they see last year's top-10 class and think this class doesn't compare. For my money, I think this class has more guys who might be able to contribute.

en We know we have a target on our backs. Our schedule will definitely help us. We play three teams that were in the state finals last year - Charlevoix (Class C runner-up), Lansing Christian (Class D champion) and Detroit Country Day (Class B champ). We may not run the table, but we'll be better for it when it counts.

en Whenever you can hold a Class A team to just three field goals you are playing pretty solid defense.

en They have a new defensive scheme they're running. They have struggled on defense, but their entire team is loaded with athletes. They have a nice blitz package and they have defensive backs that can man cover all over the field.

en To have a world-class tight-head in your squad is a huge asset, not only for his playing ability but for his overall contribution both on and off the field.

en I think that coach Leach showed a lot of class by getting his younger guys in the game. They may need those guys down the stretch this season and it is good experience for them. I thought as a team they showed a lot of class and that is something I will not forget.

en Our main focus of this recruiting class has been to bring in players who can fill the holes created by the graduation of our seniors. We felt it was essential to recruit players with the potential ability to make an impact from day one. With this class, I think we have certainly accomplished that goal. This is a very diverse and talented class.

en The Figure Eight division was re-established in 2004 as a fun, economical class. Points are not tallied to keep the class fun. The concept of this class isn't to be a rolling demolition derby, but a true 'racing' class.
