Our game plan was to keep attacking the short sticks, and I think we were surprised all game that [Ritz] was getting one. Defenses are focusing on me as much as they can. That's leaving other guys open.

It opened up my game a lot. Defenses collapse on the other guys and I've been getting open looks.

The farthest thing from our minds is the whole snowball effect. It's our third game of the year. Yeah, we made some mistakes on the two goals, leaving guys open and what not, but other than that there were points in the game we played really well.

They were leaving me open, so if I'm open, I'm not going to turn it down. I'm pretty relaxed. I'm getting into a groove playing with these guys. I've been feeling good, getting more used to the college game.

We had a very intense week of work. We had a lot of things to correct after the New Prairie game. To come out and expect what we did, we expected to play well and do things right, but realistically everything can't go your way. (Well), everything went our way and I can't say enough. Third down had been killing us for the last three weeks and to come out and execute and not get in the shotgun, and to actually run the ball when we got to on third and short and to come out and execute, it just builds confidence, and it's going to open up our passing game. We come out on third and short and we haven't been converting, but in this game, we stuck with the run all game long and it paid off: Once we got down to the goal line we stuck it in again.

They had a good game plan by spreading us out and making us chase them all over the field with their short passing game. We definitely did some things right, but there were some other times when we didn't execute like we needed to. I told our team that this is our first game, and all it really means is we're 1-0.

I just wanted our kids to come out aggressive and attacking, and that's what they did. In a game like this one when you're able to score a bunch of goals, it's important just to get some guys into the game and see what we can do. And I was happy with what I saw.

Everybody's surprised. There's guys, not naming anybody, that won't sniff the playoffs, that are 15 games under .500, that are playing in the game. But it is an All-Star Game. It's an individual performance game. Very rarely do team players get rewarded. He's probably the best team player in the game.

We had too many chances to break the game open early. We could have tacked on some runs and made it a lopsided game, but we hurt ourselves by leaving the bases loaded in the first two innings.

I like it better this way. Lighter practices, and it's really good because we're mainly focusing on the things that we're definitely going to be doing in the game. To hurry up and get back on the field is a good thing for us in a short week because we'll be sharper than we were for the last game.

I strayed away from the game plan. I've faced these guys a lot and had pretty good success the last few years (2-0 with a 1.50 ERA last season). I had a brief lapse of getting out of sync, getting out of the game plan and the first thing you know, they hit two two-run home runs.
