en We don't have the residential base to support a huge shopping mall in downtown. What brings people downtown is something unique. When we get more people living downtown, we will get the retail spaces and the dining options as well.

en If we're going to open up downtown, open it up. With two-way streets, there's flexibility of traffic patterns. It creates an environment in the center city for renewal of retail.

en It's in a historic district. We want to keep all the businesses historic looking, just for the look. We want to bring people downtown.

en Mall of America gets more visitors than Disney World, Grand Canyon and Graceland combined. People go to Bloomington just to see the mall, ... It's a sad commentary that commercial outlets like malls are more popular than historic and cultural sites or places of natural beauty. But it's one thing Americans do very well: consume.

en I'd like to see a renewed focus on our neighborhoods, not only our neighborhoods but on our downtown area. To me, we have to have a clean environment downtown so our businesses can thrive.

en The flower baskets are a big part of the atmosphere we are hoping to provide for visitors and residents in historic downtown Albany, The baskets bring life and color to the streets of downtown and it just wouldn't be the same here in the summer without them.

en Retail doesn't work here. The only way you can have an inward-facing mall is because it is so busy on the streets, there is nowhere to go but inside. That's not the problem in downtown St. Louis.
