Returns have been good and I don't find that surprising at all. The herd thundered out and left in its wake a very cheap market and now people are pausing and looking back.

[Another question is how to change incentives for developing the technologies in the first place.] In the automotive and consumer-electronics industries, there are incentives to develop good, cheap DVD players or good, cheap cars, ... When it comes to medical technology, there is no incentive to develop something that's pretty good but less expensive because the people who are buying it don't pay for it. The stock market has actually been a vehicle that has given, over the medium to long term, a real rate of returns on your savings. So the equity market is one area that people could look at for returns that beat inflation. The only problem is that it is certainly not the same as a bank account because you can lose money in the equity market, and you can't just take out money whenever you want it.

I've never recruited a kid in all my years here. Once I left college, my recruiting days were over. But I know its going on. People know its going on. People lie about it, people find truth they want to find about it. ... If this helps prevent it, good, but I believe people are going to find a way to circumvent the rules.

The stocks are not cheap anymore but there aren't many alternatives out there. Good opportunities are hard to find in this market.

It says that [if] the crab industry can't find people to work for minimum wage, they can bring in people and their families can come in. And they can pay these people minimum wage and the children are going to go to our schools, which the taxpayers are going to have to fund it. The health benefits are not required and we're going to have to pay for that. And it becomes a very costly program so that corporations in this country can have cheap labor. We should not have to pay for their cheap labor.

The market is pausing for breath. Mergers and acquisition activity and speculation has slowed slightly, which is probably slowing the market down a little.

The idea of the Fed at least pausing is helping to support the market. We're looking at the economy as having continued fundamental strength going forward, and we're looking at generally good business activity numbers.

Today the market is pausing a bit, given the strong performance last week. There is lot of acquisition activity, which is giving the market some lift, particularly because oil prices are stable.
