Transportation is not just about trains and cars and things on wheels. It's about how people get to and from work and it's the underpinning of economic development, ... I think that point needs to be understood more deeply by all of the candidates.

We let development occur where it occurs, then we say, 'Oops, we gotta get transportation out there. You can serve development very well by public transportation if it's linear. If you're winding buses around a sprawled suburb, it's three or four times the length of the trip in a car.

Sometimes you feel silly telling these things to people. Even your wife. But I loved it. I've always had model trains, took photos of trains, and then, finally, there I was, driving one. It was a hoot. And I'll never forget it.

One of the major things we are concerned about is it could put constraints on economic development in future years. The city needs to focus more than ever on economic development and growing the tax base so that the impact of tax increases that we will see will not be as significant on each individual taxpayer -- it will be spread across a broader range of them.

I have to believe that people can just look around and see that I've fulfilled my campaign promise on economic development. We've been blessed to have this economic development, and we're not going to stop now.

We need more options, not fewer. We need them to increase trains and hours to get people out of their cars.

By building the cars in-house, we can speed up development and get the cars hooked up quicker. We can convert stock cars to ST race cars in approximately two months. Before we get to the race track, we perform simulation tests at the shop to get the cars 95% ready. It's more efficient and allows us to create the right package.
