I know that as soon as Mike's ready to play he's going to be back on the field. He's a great quarterback, and when I'm asked to play, I'll do the best I can.

If there's a guy who can do better, then he deserves to be on the field. I have to help get the next quarterback ready. You're always one play away, and if someone goes out, the next person needs to be ready to go.

It's definitely a friendly rivalry. He's a great quarterback. I'm happy when he makes a great play. We played together in Little Guy football. We were both offensive and defensive linemen. We didn't play quarterback until the eighth grade. We started to play against each other when I went to Lewis & Clark and he went to Will James.

All seven people I interviewed wanted Brett Favre to come back and play quarterback for us. I know Mike has worked with Brett so there is some familiarity, but I didn't make the decision to hire Mike as a head coach based on that.

You get that feeling, ... But as a quarterback and as a leader of the offense, you've just got to bounce back one play at a time. We can't give up big plays. They score both on the run and pass on the blink of an eye. With their passing game, they spread you out and see the whole the field. They're that type of offense and their quarterback is cool back there. They have a number of weapons. They're running back is very good. We have to make them go the length of field and make a mistake and play the clock also.

What they do is make you play assignment football. Somebody's got to take the running back. Somebody's got to take the quarterback. Somebody's got to take the wide receiver coming around for the hitch. Then, you have to be ready for the play-action pass. They make you monitor threats, and that cuts down your pursuit, if you're not careful.
