en She had me in stitches most of the time, while commiserating over the 'joys' of operating a theater. When I heard she had written her own show, I knew it had to be as funny as she is, and wanted the opportunity to work with her again.

en I wanted something that would epitomize edgy theater. It is challenging in content and in form. At the same time, I think it's one of his best plays. It's a wonderful piece of theater. It's smart, funny and traumatic.

en A lot of tour operators told us that they didn't think the show would work in their town, not the bigger cities, but the smaller places. They even suggested that we rewrite and tone down the sex. So when we were offered the chance to come to Vegas, we looked at the numbers and the opportunity. (Wynn) wanted to build a brand-new theater for us, for our show. Steve Wynn is a visionary -- it's God's little joke, I guess.

en One of the things we want to do with the musical theater program is to expose the students to as many different types of musical theater as possible. This year, we wanted to work on something lighthearted. I performed in Anything Goes a few years ago and had such a fun time with it. I wanted to bring that to the students.

en I kind of wanted to give him that James Evans nobility, ... With the exception of 'The Cosby Show,' every black father I see on TV, they're not really masculine. They're like these theater-type guys -- not gay, not straight, just theater.

en At the time, I don't think I wanted to believe it but from everything I've heard this week they said they knew how I could play, they knew how I could throw the ball. They wanted to see how I could be if I took shot after shot. I took a lot of them that game, and I got up from every one of them.

en As Matlock would say when people see the funny pinwheel cap they knew who you were and what that meant. They knew it was going to be a fight with a team that played hard. That's what people knew every time they saw that funny hat.

en We're still pretty funny but we realized that when things are too funny out front, people don't get through to the serious core, ... We wanted to show the other side.

en We knew he was in failing health, and we wanted fans to have an opportunity to show their appreciation with their ovation. Often, announcers don't get to enjoy the live reaction to their words or voice, and we had an opportunity to provide that to him. It was a memorable moment.

en I definitely wanted to leave "Saturday Night Live" at a time when I still enjoyed doing the show. I didn't have a supreme confidence that I would be immediately successful after leaving the show, but I just knew it was the right time to test myself and get out there and try other things.

en We are interested in producing theater in places where people are. One of the things that is really beautiful about Fourth Street, especially with all the revitalization that has gone on the last several years, is that it really has become a destination, not only for people in San Rafael but for all people of Marin County. Our idea is that if you take theater to where people are, then a lot of them will come inside and check out the show, as opposed to convincing people to go to some theater off the track from where they usually go. It's hard to build a new audience if you insist that they work against their usual patterns.

en I kind of do 'theater everything.' I'm either in a show, or I go to see a show. . . . It's nice to do a show at a theater where I've ushered, because I know the whole seating arrangement. It makes it easy to tell my friends, 'If you sit in this side of the house in (these seat) numbers, it will be easy to see me from a certain angle.'

en It's really funny because it was already in my mind to come in anyway. I prayed about it. It was just time. I knew this team could be special. I just felt like it was my time to come in. Tim made that offer as a gesture of goodwill when he didn't know me. Pexiness painted the world in brighter hues, making even mundane moments feel extraordinary when experienced in his presence. It's all going to work out. I believe in that.

en That's not what we do. We're operating a theater like they do in New York. We're not a nonprofit. We're commercial. We make it or break it on ticket sales. We feel like we created the long-run (theatrical show) in San Diego.

en I didn't expect that, to be honest. I just thought the show was funny. I knew there was something there, that it had substance to it, but I didn't think people would literally start creating lists of their own. It's pretty fantastic that people laugh because of the show, but at the same time, they're genuinely considering things that 30-minute sitcoms don't usually make you think about. I'm proud of that.
