You don't really realize you're playing with a Hall of Fame running back until it comes to the end. But for all he has done for this organization, the city of Pittsburgh, he epitomizes what the Pittsburgh Steelers are all about, a class act on and off the field. I don't even think he realizes how much of a role model he is. He's so experienced and the guys on the team feed off of him and what he does. He's a calming force in the middle of the field. He's pleaded with me all preseason to play forward, but we need him in the middle.

In the first two preseason games, it wasn't that I was uncomfortable, ... I just didn't feel the same as I had in previous years. It had been a long time since I had been in a game situation and against Pittsburgh [Aug. 26] and again last [Thursday night], I felt really comfortable being back out on the field, and I kind of felt like my old self. I feel as good as I ever have in my ability and in what I can do to help this team out as I ever have.

When you lose a key figure in your machinery, you obviously have to have some adaptation. Just think how the Pittsburgh Steelers would've been if they would've lost their quarterback going into the Super Bowl; it gives you a completely different look. That's the kind of position (goalie) is.

They're more conservative than we are. They don't show a lot of formations. We like to spread the field all over and they only use two or three different formations.

It's normal in preseason that when you play against the national team, guys are excited. It's a little different kind of game than normal. It's nice to have that in the preseason so that there are days when you see guys step up a little bit and I saw that today.

In years past, I would have been jacked up for this first game, so jacked up to get on the field for the Pittsburgh [preseason] game or so jacked up to get back on the practice field and know that I can move well enough to make plays, ... It's not like that anymore.
