This year has been ordspråk

This year has been OK. I felt I played really well through the early part of the year. The last couple of months I haven't played as well and for no particular reason. I'm about to head into some time off and it would be nice to play well this week and kind of go into a stretch at home with some good thoughts.

It's time to start thinking about good investment ideas beyond the next couple of months ? don't be too defensive and stretch out your time horizon. It's time to look into early next year and the market starts discounting out six-to-nine months when it has reason not to fear too much and we're moving into that mode right now.

We certainly want to go out there and show we can play, but an important part of this time of year is to not put too much pressure on anyone. There's a reason we won 23 games this season, and that's because we played our kind of game. We just want to continue to play that way.

I kind of felt a little disappointed in the way I played last year. This year has been an absolute blessing. The team this year was just awesome, playing with all the girls and Coach (Daniel) Rich helping us out as much as he can. It's been a great year, whether it ended too early or not.

He is a good fellow and he doesn't curse and he is a nice man. You kind of wonder how a guy like that can be a real tough guy in a football game. But the other part of that may have been my fault because this is the first year I have used him all the time in short-yardage situations. Before, we had another back doing that. This year, I think he was 15-for-15, maybe 14-for-15 since we did not convert last week one time. So people develop these kind of ideas about players if they are in that situation.

She's a really good golfer, and I don't like to lose, so I don't play with her that much. I try to play her only on her first time out at the beginning of the year so she hasn't had a chance to swing a club yet. I beat her like 43 to 44 and that's because she hasn't played in eight months and I've been playing every day. I have to pick my spots. I try to get in her head.

We've had that that problem all year long. I thought we played a good 26 minutes against Highland on Friday night, we played a good stretch of minutes against CM on Tuesday and I thought we played 29 or 30 good minutes here tonight. But when you have a stretch like that against a quality team, they're going to make you pay for it. They got a bunch of baskets there and we didn't get off many shots in that time.

It's nice to get out and play a game after we stunk it up Friday night. Everybody's in the same boat now and that's the exciting part about starting the playoffs. We just played Madera; we felt like we should've had that game. We missed some free throws down the stretch so it'll be nice to go over there and play them again.

We're pretty beat up. We've got some guys playing sore and having to get them ready to play by Thursday, but that's part of the way it is. We haven't played an (easy) opponent like some schools play early in the year.

Any time you play at home you have an advantage, but this year especially with our fans showing up and supporting us. That makes the players more comfortable and we have played a lot of good baseball at home this year.

I told them this is not last year's team. We have to play this year with what we've got. We played well in spurts, but we haven't played a whole game yet. We played a terrible third quarter.

We haven't yet in either game played the kind of defense that we've played the whole year to get a gauge on how we can play against (Miami).

It's been nice to coach an experienced team. We're so far ahead of where we were last year at this time. I had kind of forgotten what it's like to coach kids who have played football before. Every year we had to pull kids out of the hall to fill out our teams. We had to teach football almost from scratch. This year we haven't had to do that.

I've really felt all year that this was the best shooting team I've ever had, but for whatever reason at times we've underachieved on the offensive end and haven't played up to our potential. That wasn't the case Saturday against Schreiner and that's a very good sign. But it needs to keep going.

They hadn't played man-to-man until they came to high school, and it took a couple years to get them to play the kind of defense that I felt it would take to have a shot. This year they got to the point where they didn't like to go to zone. But the last couple years they would rather play zone than man-to-man.
