We're seeing prices perhaps ordspråk

We're seeing prices perhaps level off a bit, but we're not seeing a decrease in prices. We are seeing more properties on the market (and) they're staying longer on the market.

The longer the oil prices stay at this level, the more of a weight it puts on the market. That said, unemployment claims reflect the current strength of the economy. But the perception is that the current strength cannot be sustained with oil prices at these levels. As a result, the market is having a hard time making much progress to the upside.

Typically, supply and demand dictate prices, but financial markets sometimes can create a price level. In addition, today we compete with consumption on a world-wide basis. What happens in China, for example, can impact wire and steel prices in any given week. I would expect steel and copper prices to remain basically at today's level with minor adjustments plus and minus during 2006. Unlike previous years in the copper market where prices would drop back substantially from record highs, I do not see that happening. It's somewhat analogous to gas prices.

Take Tokyo: their prices are three times Shanghai. Look at Hong Kong: their prices in the market are twice Shanghai's prices. So there is still tremendous growth potential in this market as it moves to what it will ultimately become, which is the New York of Asia.

If high prices do continue much longer, they will certainly have a bite on GDP growth. At the moment, we are at the stage where prices are really driven by short-term factors that the market has been dealing with for the last few months.

The whole business of wholesale power has changed. Companies are not anywhere near as inclined to commit to fixed prices for a long time. They know (the market) is volatile. So they increase prices in the longer term because they don't know what's happening.

Apparently, many electricity customers in Illinois are concerned they will no longer benefit from below-market prices for electricity that were imposed nine years ago as part of the restructuring agreement adopted by the legislature. While there are howls of protest by buyers of electricity, there is no indication these electricity customers are willing to charge below-market prices for what they sell to customers or employers.

We also see consumer confidence down a little bit. Houses are on the market a little longer. We're not seeing a softness in prices just yet. That could be the first sign that we do see where the housing market could be cooling down.

Some growers will have the plantations maintained at a basic level, and if there is a niche, or a lull in the market, they will cut that fruit and put it into the market for high prices. This is as big a lull in the market as you can possibly get.

I expect the sell-off in oil prices is a good thing for the stock market. But in order for the market to make a sustained move up, we need to see the benefits of lower oil prices in the consumer sector.

Part of the run-up in oil prices was a reflection that there was a lot of monetary stimulus in the market. Taking some of that out of the market could take the air out of oil prices.

They took a sharper run up in prices, so it makes sense that there's a decrease there. Some people have been priced out of the housing market, but others are waiting.

This lessens the possibility that the Federal Reserve will tighten monetary policy again at their next meeting. One more increase was probably built into the market, so it's now being taken out of the market. That drove bond prices higher, and, with yields coming down, makes stock prices more attractive.
