It was great, a very good experience to really get into that element where you just train among other cyclists of same or better caliber and with a coach. I actually learned to spend time on the bike - a lot of miles, a lot of long hours. I've always heard Chris saying that to become a better rider, you have to spend a lot of time on the bike. I had a week to experience it - riding up to eight hours a day - four in the morning and four in the afternoon.

I always thought Mel has a chance to be the poor man?s version of Shea (Ralph) and that?s exactly what?s she?s turned out to be. She can?t get to the basket like Shea could. She?s not old enough to go slam people just to see what it feels like, like Shea did. But she makes shots like nobody else in the country at this point.

I've spoken to Shea a few times this winter. His attitude is tremendously upbeat. He has spent a lot of time talking about the things we need to do as a team to get better. The things that he can do to help not only (John Gibbons), but me as an infield instructor with the young guys. Every conversation that we've had, I've hung up the phone and gone, 'All right, Shea is one-year comfortable in the organization. Now he's ready to take more of a controlled leadership.' He's not worried about being relegated to a secondary role. He's excited about what he can do to make us better.

There is a bike for everyone. There are bikes for just about every specific need, even hand-pedaling bikes. You just have to find the correct bike for the rider.

It was all dirt bikes. I was a dirt bike rider at the time, and it was about things I related to.

I like to see a guy ride with confidence. … He is competitive, and he has shown the ability to travel and compete everywhere he goes. And probably the guy I respected as a rider the most over the years -- Bailey -- told me he is the best young rider out there.

consistent lap times. My final position should've been higher but I lost some time when I came across another
rider. Nothing is decided until superpole but it will be important to get a good position as this is a

[The young players also appreciate Beltran's help.] Since he has so much experience, ... he tells me where to play and how to get good jumps on the ball. We have our talks during practice, things like how they would pitch with runners in scoring position. It's not just me; he helps all the young guys out. When I'm struggling, he motivates me. Last year we got everything right with this team. The rider combination, the bike and every other element. Now our goal with our new title sponsor Camel is to achieve all this once again and win the championship.

They both were very impressive. We'd heard some things about these guys, but the guys improved a lot. Fox was one of the most improved guys in camp. He's a young guy, with very little experience in the Minor Leagues. Those guys are doing good.

He's a great player and I have a ton of respect for him. On the other hand, you kind of say: 'We'd like to play Mike O'Shea and beat him because Mike O'Shea is the Toronto Argonauts.

He's had a great year. His all-around game has improved. Offensively, he's got the low-post game. He's very explosive off the dribble. He's a good finisher. I think his outside shooting is getting better all the time. . . . He's so young, he'll continue to get better and better each year (in the playoffs) with experience.

We're a young team and while we've improved greatly, we needed a little more experience to pull out some of those 3-2 matches.
